Total jelly doughnuts = 17% of 100 + 40% of 100 + x% of 100 =30%(300)
17+40 + x = 90 => x = 90 - 57 = 33

33 of 100 doughnuts is 33 % Which is option D

This is a simple Percentage problem! However, the wordings of the question is a bit confusing!

Its given in the question that the bakery made 3 shipments of 100 doughnuts each. Which means $$Total Doughnuts = 300$$

The question says 30% of all three shipments are jelly doughnuts. This translates to $$Total Jelly Doughnuts = \frac{30}{100}*300 = 100$$

The question also says 17% of the first shipment and 40% of the second shipment were Jelly Doughnuts. Total Jelly Doughnuts represents 100%, of this 17% and 40 % were first and second shipments respectively. So $$Third Shipment = 100-17-40=33 percent$$

Though its not required, from the previous calculations, we could also say that there were 33 Jelly Doughnuts in the third shipment!

30% of 300 = 17% of 100 + 40% of 100 + z

90 = 17 + 40 + z

Or, z = 90 - 57

So, z = 33 , Answer must be (D)
