A person purchased a batch of books, some of which are no tax textbooks and the others should be taxed. He purchased a total of $427 textbooks and $600 other books (tax excluded). If 3% of the total amount he paid is equal to the tax he paid, what is the tax rate?
just to clarify, shouldnt the whole thing be divided by 427 rather than 600 since the $600 is the tax free worth of books and $427 are the taxable books.
