(C) 75
(D) 77
(E) None of these

Let the number of apples= 100

sold 60% = 60 apples...remaining =40

Thrown away 15%= 6 apples

Remaining =40-6=34
sold 50 % of remaining = 34/2=17
Remaining thrown away = 17 apples

Total thrown away =6+17=23

Percentage thrown = 23/100=23%

If there are 100 apples, then the vendor sold 60 apples on the first day and threw 15% of remainder 40 apples, i.e. he threw away 6 apples. He is now left with 34 apples.
Next day he sold 50% of these 34 apples, i.e. he sold 17 apples. He threw away the reminder 17 apple.
So in total he threw 23 apples out of 100.
Correct answer - (B) 23

Let total apples be 100

Vendor sells 60 apples and throws 15% of 40 i.e. 6

He is now left with 34 apples, of which he sells 50% i.e 17 and throws remaining 17

Total apples thrown away= 17+6= 23

B is the answer

Assume total apples initially = 100x
Apples left after selling 60% = 100x - 60x = 40x

15% of 40x = 6x

Remaining apples = 34x

50% of the remaining sold = 17x
Thrown away apples = 17x

Total apples thrown away = 17x + 6x = 23x = 23%
