A. Incorrect. Improper use of an adverb.
B. Incorrect. The game of chess is any instance of the game. This response would require 'a' as an indefinite article.
C. Incorrect. Same issue as B.
D. Correct.
E. Incorrect. Would require the first to clauses to be combined, followed by 'politics often do as well'.

Can experts please help me understand how D is the correct answer here?

Like the game.., politicians... Seems wrong because it compares games with politicians.

Thanks in advance.

It's not comparing "politicians"
"Game of chess" is compared with "politics"
