'hopeful' is always wrong in GMAT world, so C and D are out.

E changes the meaning. he suppose to provide power.

B awkward construction.

A wins.

Yes I also choose A after reading the variations. Other answer choices are gramatically incorrect, awkward-sounding, or different in meaning.
