Are at least 20 percent of the people in the city H who are at least 30 years old bilingual?

1) In city H,30 percent of population is at least 30 years old.

2) In city H,of the population 30 years old or older,18 percent of the women and 17 percent of the men are bilingula


well , let a and b be the number of women and men in the population 30 years old or older.
we have : a+b=30%A (A is the total population)
the total bilingual population(>=30 years old) is : 0.18a+0.17b < 0.18a+0.18 b = 0.18(a+b)=0.18*30%A = 5.4%A -------> No for the question --->suff.

Let x, y be the total number of women and men in the city
0.18a+0.17b < 0.18a+0.18 b<= 0.18 x +0.18y= 0.18(x+y)=0.18*100%A = 18%A <20% A ---> No for the answer--->suff

:evil: its B)...there is no way that at least 20% of the ppl over 30 are bilingual...assume 100 ppl...30% are over 30...even the case that there are only women would reach the scenario that there are at lest 20%....


I'm sure you mean C :wink: coz you use statement 1 also

question together with statement 2) is 0,18w+0.17m>=0,2m+0,2w ? => 0>=0,02w+0,03m ? suff
