This is similar to "He went to the restroom during the 15 minute intermission between acts of the play."

The use of "its" in C is supported by the use of "it" in "it may veer onto a collision course..."

As for the exact question you posed in the subject of this thread:

"How are you supposed to answer this?" - My response is "carefully".

GOOD One IMO E, A and B are out because of passing, C and D are using "its" which is unclear, therefore E, what is OA?

Such a b-a-d question.....
when I saw the word "interval", I was expecting "when" but there is nothing like that. Suddenly "because" seemed wrong and chose wrong answer...

I think the usage of "between" is fine here, as "interval" implies something that has two points - a starting point and a finishing point.
