Question:
In a triangle ABC above, what is the length of side BC?
(1) Line segment AD = 6
(2) x = 36
I am sorry that I cannot show the triangle here, but basically it is a normal triangle which is divided in two. The only thing we know is that two angles (size=36) of one of the triangles are the same size. (I hope some of you have access to this book).
When the Answer is explained it says that "the degree measure of an exterior angle of a triangle is equal to the sum of the remote interior angles" As a result Statement (1) is sufficient to answer the question.
I am not sure if this this is correct. Can we really assume that the second triangle is a isosceles triangle. No such information is given. Is this an assumption?
