(C) 3.20 pm
(D) 3.40 pm
(E) 4.00 pm

Current Distance between A and B = 300 miles

As A and B are traveling towards each other, their speeds will be summed up = (40 + 60) miles/hr

Time = 300/100 = 3 hrs

Answer is (B) 3.00 pm

We can use the following formula:

distance of car A + distance of car B = total distance = 300

We can let the time of car A and car B = t. Thus:

60t + 40t = 300

100t = 300

t = 3

Since they started at noon, they will meet three hours later, at 3 p.m.

Answer: B
