Company J Rate :- 1 house in 1/36 year
stmt 1 :- 14 houses in 3 months :- 56 houses in a year
Rate of building 1 house = 1/56 year
both can build 1 house in (1/36+ 1/56) year
75 houses can be calculated..hence sufficient

stmt2 - does not say anything about the constant rate and for duration K was working on 4 houses. Not sufficient.

Should be A...not sure though

total is 75 houses
rate of J is 36 houses/year
rate of K is unknown. let it be k
so the time taken will be 75/(36+k)

therefore, we need to find k

St 1: k builds 14 houses in 3 months. therefore no. of houses k builds in 1 year or 12 months = 14*4 = 56houses/year = k. Hence the value for the above expression can be calculated. ANSWER

St 2: the value of k cannot be deduce with the help of this information.

Option A

(1) We know that company J can build 36 houses in a year and we know that company k can build 42 houses in a year. Therefore, we can calculate how long it will take both companies working simultaneously at their individual rates to build 75 houses.
1/42 + 1/36 =
Sufficient

(2) We do not know how many company k can build in year.
Insufficient

Answer is A

We are given rate of company J, i.e 36 houses/year
We need to find out total time taken to build 75 houses if both J and K work simultaneously.

Rate*Time=Work

1/36=rate of J
k= rate of company K
total time taken be t

1/36+k * t=75

so basically we need to know the rate of company k

st.1 tells us the rate of company k, hence sufficient

st.2 does not give us any relevant info.

therefore ans is a.
