I just took a Manhattan GMAT exam and I am in the process of reviewing my mistakes. I unfortunately can't paste the question here but Basically I thought the below sentence was incorrect as it had "compare" to in it. Can anyone explain why this is correct and not a sentence with "compare with". I should also note that the choices with compare with sounded just plain awful and had other grammatical mistakes.

as per my understanding "compare to" is used for unlike things and "compare with" is used to compare similar things.

"Compared to that of the ancient Greeks, the literature of today's Greeks is not worth describing"
