A. Basic chores are rewarded at the rate of $0.50 each through the regular allowance.

Tab#1 (You must perform three of the chores on the list without complaint daily to receive your regular allowance of $5.00 per week)

So, 500 cents / (3 chores daily x 7 days) = approx 25 cents each

FALSE is the answer

B. Assuming that the kitchen has at least 24 linear feet of countertop, washing the kitchen counters is the best-paying chore on the bonus list.

Total payment (kitchen countertop) >= 24 linear feet x $0.25 per counter linear foot = $ 6.00

$ 6.00 is higher than any other payment pertaining to various chores

TRUE is the answer

C. Timothy earned more than $100.00 last year from his report card alone.

A's (13 Nos) = 13 x 5 = 65
B's (9 Nos) = 9 x 2 = 18
C's (6 Nos) = 6 x 0 = 0
D's (3 Nos) = 3 x (-5) = -15
E's (1 No) = 1 x (-10) = -10

Total earning = 65 + 18 + 0 -15 -10 = $ 58 < $ 100

FALSE is the answer

Official Explanation

Basic chores are rewarded at the rate of $0.50 each through the regular allowance.

Basic chores pay only at a rate of $0.24 each through Timothy's regular allowance. Divide $5 by 3 chores a day and 7 days a week for a total of $0.238 per chore.

Answer: No

Assuming that the kitchen has at least 24 linear feet of countertop, washing the kitchen counters is the best-paying chore on the bonus list.

If the kitchen has 24 linear feet of countertop, then the chore pays $6.00 for a complete cleaning. This is in fact the best-paying chore on the bonus list if Timothy washes the entire countertop.

Answer: Yes

Timothy earned more than $100.00 last year from his report card alone.

Timothy earned $29.00 in the first quarter, $7 in the second quarter, $21 in the third quarter, and in the fourth quarter. This is a total of $79 for the school year.

Answer: No

What if he shampoos the carpet of two rooms? Shouldn't that be the highest paid?

In Q2, What if there are 5 rooms in their house, and he mops the floor of each one, earning 3*5= $15, which is definitely greater than $6 that he gets from cleaning 24 linear feet of countertop?

As mentioned above, how can we conclusively say kitchen top is highest when there could be any number of rooms or window panes for which he could be paid higher?

Yes, we cannot say that kitchen counter top is the best paying chore without additional info.

There could be any number of rooms, window panes, toilets, etc. for us to conclusively determine the best paying chore out there.
