I had an interview with a second-year student. He looked at one screen for questions and typed on another. 1. Can you introduce yourself? 2. What's your goal after getting an MBA? 3. How would you assess an organization's operational strategy? 4. Share an instance when you assessed another company's operational strategy. 5. Describe a leadership challenge you've faced. 6.Which country would you like to travel during your MBA? 7. What will you bring to the Broad MBA program? 8. Any questions for me?

My panel consisted of two professors P1 and P2. I was the last person to be interviewed that day and by the time my chance came, there was already an hour's delay. My interview would've lasted about 25 minutes - 20 minutes talking on extempore and 5 minutes of work-ex+why PGPX. P2 ushered me into the room as P1 scrolled through my profile. P1 said, oh ed-tech experience from X. Looks like we have a lot of questions to ask you. P2 said, they will begin the questioning after the extempore. The topic on the chit I picked out first was, "Should professors with few years of experience be teaching MBA students who come with rich corporate experience of many years." I wasn't comfortable with this topic and picked out another chit which had the topic, "Automation and AI have left several people out of jobs. Should government introduce an automation tax on AI firms?" I was glad since this is a topic I've read a lot about. I began by taking a position for the argument. How Big Tech utilises millions of terabytes of data without consent or remuneration and uses to profit off of these. Added a few more points to this effect. P2 corrected me by saying that I had missed the crux of the topic and the topic was about automation tax to make up for job losses. I then course corrected and continued speaking for the topic but with more relevant points. I was often cross-questioned and spoken over, especially by P2 who just wanted to negate everything I said. I maintained my calm and let them finish whenever they were speaking and only then began. This back and forth continued for ~20 minutes at the end of which P1 asked me, "So is your stance still the same?" I answered with a solid yes and I feel sticking to my guns really helped my case. Two things I'd like to suggest to candidates is: Don't get frustrated when spoken over. Be patient and hear them. Smile when being cross-questioned. They look for subtle cues in your behaviour while challenging you. And try holding your ground by backing up your answers with opinions and facts. Secondly, try to make the answers personal and include your experiences and motivations if you can. I was able to plug in a few reasons for me to pursue MBA, courtesy the cross-questioning during the MBA. After P1 asked me that question, they were looking to wrap up the interview and asked my the very expected, 'Why PGPX'. This is where I messed up due to a lack of preparation. I already have an admit from another school and that made me complacent. Plus I had given three interviews prior to this one so I didn't have interview stress also. Hence, I had not prepared at all for this interview. Had I researched and prepared well for this interview, I'd have answered this question more convincingly and would've definitely secured an Admit instead of a Waitlist. In conclusion, be confident and well prepared on these fronts - work ex, your industry's current state, challenges, future outlook, why MBA and why PGPX. All the best to those interviewing!

Afternoon slot interview with 2 profs at ITC Windsor in Bangalore on 7th Oct 2023. There were about 20-25 people slotted for interviews in the afternoon. There was a person taking attendance and ID check. Close to the allotted time, we were escorted upstairs for the interviews. 4 panels in 4 rooms with 1-3 people waiting outside for their chance. My interview was just after snacks time. Walked in with a smile, greeted the panelist. I was explained what would happen as it was my first time interviewing with the panel. I was asked to pick a chit from the fishbowl and decide either to speak on the topic or pick a different topic. My topic was along the lines of "should cryptocurrencies be banned?" Decided to roll with the topic, wrote down some points on the paper provided by the panel. Was given about a minute to prepare. Then I clarified my stand on the topic and provided my reasoning behind it. Was able to keep the conversation jovial and light. There was some cross-questioning and halfway through they asked me to change my stance. Was able to talk about a couple of points as I had written down those points for such an eventuality. Then the disussion moved to my work ex and my move from US to India. Differences observed, impact of those changes on me, my leadership style etc. Here also, was able to tie in a few points from the previous discussion and points I had prepared for the interview. We spoke about challenges at work and how I have had to adapt my leadership style to the Indian context. Then we spoke about semiconductor domain. I was asked about some niche applications, that was a googly. I was able to answer based on my experience and brainstorm some potential future applications as well. The end. Was asked to take a chocolate. Thanked them and left the room. Done in about 15-20 minutes.

My interview was scheduled to be at 03:00 p.m. in Mumbai. I reached about 30 minutes before that. I was told to wait for the turn. There were three panels. Many candidates were coming out of the interview rooms with mixed reactions. I asked a couple of the candidates about the extempore topic. Their topics were: 1. Indian startups are often criticized for replicating Western products without much innovation. Comment. 2. Given the significance of mental health, it is advisable to consider discontinuing closed-book exams. I was asked to wait for my turn. My turn came around 04:15. Two professors were in the panel: one male and one female. I greeted them and was asked to take my seat. As I sat, I was asked the question: What do I do? I answered. After that, the female professor asked me: Is Coal a mineral? I was not sure about this. I said yes and added that I was not sure about this. ( One geologist once told me that different people have different answers to this question). The other professor then asked me to select a chit. My topic was: Do you believe that MBA professors with limited corporate experience should be teaching students who come with significant industry experience? I did not change the topic. As I asked the permission to start. But given the nature of this topic, I remained silent for a few seconds before murmuring the words" it is a very difficult topic for this." The Professors smiled a bit and told me that they had given me a chance to change it. So, I started with the extempore. I started by saying with hesitations that: Those who can't, teach. And the Professors smiled and said exactly what they were saying. But, then I added that I do not believe in this line. I gave a few points. My points were: 1. They do research. 2. Cases. 3. Act as a consultant for so many companies. 4. Also learning is a two-way street. They also learn from students from diverse backgrounds as well. To this, the female professor commented: " So you are saying that we are taking your money and learning from you guys?" There was cross-questioning after every single point. They were not satisfied till the end. Then they asked me about my roles and responsibilities. After that, the female professor asked me if I ever went to visit the site. She asked me about the reserve that we have explored in the current project. I was then asked the question regarding why MBA. After that, they asked about the other B-Schools interview I have to give. I told them about the ISB's interview. The professor asked me if I got the call to which I responded in affirmative and added that the dates have not been finalized yet. I added that I would apply to IIMB as well in later rounds if needed. After that, they asked me about my interests and what I do in my free time. I replied that I love trading and I do options trading. The Professor asked me if I had read the news about the facts by SEBI. I had read the news but quoted the wrong percentage of the people who lose money while trading options. I was asked if I was profitable. I replied " No." Then I was asked why I do the trading. She asked me if I had become habitual. To which I responded "No". I told them about how I would also do option selling in the future. The professor gently advised me to not do that. " Jo paisa bacha h wo bhi jaega". They both smiled. So, I was asked what have I learned. I could have answered this better. But, in the interview, I could not. I said a couple of points after which I was interrupted. And then I lost the flow and deviated. I told them that in the future as well I would continue trading. I was told that the interview was over and if I had any questions. I asked a couple of questions. And that's all. Hope this helps! A special thank you to Manan Sir, Sandeep Yadav Sir, and the whole S4G team for all the help with the application and the interview prep. All the best to the readers!!

The interviewer was a member of the admissions committee who was incredibly kind. With no small talk, she immediately explained the process. The interview was quite friendly but in a way like talking to a professor. She broke up the questions into many pieces to get quick responses. 1) Go over your college history and why you chose your major 2) Tell me about why you went to X industry right after college 3) Tell me about how you progressed at Y company in terms of your responsibilities and roles 4) Why did you quit Y company? 5) Tell me about your own startup 6) How did you find these clients? 7) What skills did your career experience help you gain? 8) Tell me about the most diverse team you worked with 9) How did you collaborate with these diverse people? 10) How would the people you work with describe you? 11) Could you compare how you were like as a leader in college and how you are as a leader now? 12) What’s changed? 13) What are your goals and why Kellogg? 14) (Because I spoke about Z club) any other clubs you are interested in? 15) Do you have a backup plan if your current plan doesn’t pan out, a plan B? 16) Do you have anything to add? There were a few more follow-up questions I cannot recall unfortunately.

The interview was conducted by an alum, and it was incredibly friendly. After some small talk, he explained the process, the logistics and that the interview is just a part of the whole interview process. The interview took about an hour. He took notes and referred to them as he asked some questions. Here are the questions: 1) Tell me about yourself 2) Why MBA? Why now? 3) Follow-up questions (i.e. what's a role you envision yourself to be in in the long-term specifically) 4) For consulting, whether I want to be a generalist or a specialist (Given that was my short term goal) 5) Why Fuqua? 6) How would you contribute to Fuqua community? 7) Tell me about the last time you had a performance review and your strengths and weaknesses 8) Follow-up: Did you do anything to resolve your weaknesses and what were the results? 9) Tell me about a time you had to adapt your communication skills to influence a team or person? 10) Tell me about a diverse team you lead and how that led to the project's success 11) What defines your leadership style?

An alumnus interviewed me, and it lasted 45 minutes with an additional 15 minutes of questions for the interviewer and general "back and forth." The overall environment was very conversational, and I was able to connect with the alumni, sharing a similar background and work experience. 1) Walk me through the various decision points throughout your career. The interviewer was specific about not walking through the resume but providing context at each role change. 2) What are your near- and long-term career goals? 3) Why Kellogg? 4) Tell me about your greatest accomplishment. 5) Tell me about a time you received constructive feedback. 6) Tell me about a time one of your direct reports was trusted to accomplish something without your direct oversight. 7) How have you progressed at each role compared to your peers? 8) What unique thing would you bring to the class? 9) What would your peers say about you if asked? 10) Tell me about your leadership style. 11) Tell me about a time you worked with a difficult person.

After 2 years browsing on GMATClub forum, I honestly don't see a lot of interview debriefs on Australian MBA programs, especially for AGSM. So here is my interview debrief, hopefully it could help someone out there looking into MBA programs in Australia. Interviewers: Dr. Kenneth Cheung (Head of Admissions) and Dr. Michele Roberts (Academic Director). They are the decision makers and have been personally hand-picking the applicants to shape the MBA cohort every single year. Interview Length: 30 minutes (the interview was strictly conducted in 30 minutes and ended sharply on time) Interview Format: business professional. The interview is a very important aspect of the application process and in their MBA admissions policy (which can be easily found on their "How to Apply" page), they wrote that applicants shall "maintain a high level of professionalism throughout all aspects of the application." Interview Questions: Q1: Explain to us your background and your CV highlights Q2: Why are you seeking an MBA? Q3: Why AGSM? Q4: Do you have any questions for us? Pro-tips: Because there were not much insights online regarding AGSM MBA debrief, I did most of my research on 1) LinkedIn where I reached out to AGSM alumni + students in the current cohort, and 2) used GMATClub interview tips videos to prepare, which was super helpful. One of the reasons I love AGSM was how amazingly welcoming the alumni + students + admissions teams were. All of them were willing to jump on a call with me to share more their program experience and the interview experience, and that's how I got my insights to prepare for the application process. Overall, AGSM is really focused on building a unique & diverse cohort where everyone can contribute their perspectives and learn from their peers. So make sure this is something that you can concisely explain to Dr. Kenneth and Dr. Michele what values/experiences you could bring to the table to enrich their community.

My panel had two professors P1 and P2 and an alum A1. P1 ushered me into the room and the interview began on a high energy note. I had mentioned in my SOP that I've dabbled in stand-up comedy. They were very interested to find what I've done. P2: How do you go about preparing your material? Explained my process and the observations I used. P2: What's your best work? Told them about a script I'd written taking inspiration from the White House Correspondents' Association Annual Dinner and rewriting it for the India Parliament at the time. P2: Who are the comedians you look upto? Told them my top two comedians and my reasons. Worked in how I they inspired me to write Bangalore specific jokes. P1: Tell me some Bangalore specific jokes. Told them two and they had poker faces. My heart sank a little. P2: Moving on, you have mentioned industries like education and healthcare in your SOP. Do you think such companies come for placements? Told them that they currently do not. However, added that through my research, attending the open house, and talking to alums I've seen that the placements are largely student-driven. Added that these are my preferred industries, not necessity. P2: What impact can you create in the healthcare industry as a PM? I started rambling a little and told more process-oriented stuff than product oriented stuff. P2 seemed to get irritated. P2: Do you think these are process impacts or product impacts? I corrected myself and tied my answer to how a product could improve the said processes. P2: What can be an example of a product in healthcare that you'd like to build? I answered and tied to my own experience of getting admitted to multiple hospitals. P1 took over and asked questions about my sector, which was surprising because I was expecting questions more specific to my country. P1: With all the new online ed-tech courses and universities popping up, do you think traditional schools like our still hold importance? I chose to not take sides in this answer. I told that both can co-exist because India has a vast population and each of them have different needs. Solidified the answers with personal experiences. P1: Which age segment in the education space would you consider to be the most lucrative? Answered and gave reasons. Worked in a personal story into the answer. A1: I want to understand that you've mentioned both content and product roles in your application. What exactly do you do? Answered how I started by building content but slowly progressed to contributing at the product level too. And since this wasn't formal, wanted to pursue and MBA to formalise it. Panel: Any questions for us? I asked two questions - one related to preparing for a certain course and the second related to campus life. Overall, the interview was very pleasant and lasted for a little over 30 minutes. Not a stress interview at all. Would advise to keep your answers short and interesting because P2 seemed to get frustrated a bit when I was going off-topic. Be true and answer genuinely and make the answers as personal as possible. Also, be confident and don't let a low or an unexpected moment take you down. I struggled a bit during my post MBA goals part of the interview. Yet, i kept smiling and answered the rest of the questions. That could've played a significant role too in my selection.

My panel had two professors P1 and P2 and an alum A1. After the usual pleasantries, P1 began with their questions. P1 seemed disinterested throughout and this was with everyone who interviewed with this panel. P1: Why does your parent company have a different market name and different registration name? Answered that this is done for various reasons and that multiple companies do it. P1: What is the problem that your company is facing with the auditors at the moment? Explained P1: How would you have solved this accounting problem? Answered P1 said they were done with their questions. A1 and P2 took over. A1: What are some of the products you've worked on? Answered and told them that the latest product I worked on was an after-school product for early learners. A1: Why did it shut down? Gave them the reasons and added my pitch that I understand products don't work in isolation but require multiple facets of a business to make it successful in the long run. That's why I need an MBA. Gave them examples of such incidents which I saw. A1: What would you have done to improve the product? Asked them for a few seconds to think. Post that gave an answer on the lines of pivoting model to B2B, reducing input costs, and changing the positioning of the product. P2: You mentioned you want to take courses W and X by Prof Y and Prof Z in you SOP. But they are no longer with the institute. What would you do? I asked them if those course are still being offered. They said yes. Told them that whoever the school would've selected to teach the course must've been thoroughly vetted. P2: You mention Product Management as your post MBA field. IIMC is not really known for its PM placements. How do you think you'll upskill yourself? I answered by stating facts from my research - PM Clubs, PM events etc. P2: The things you mentioned are mostly done by the students in the two-year program. I ensured him that I'd do my best to particpate and drive those clubs and events. Panel: Any questions for us? I asked two questions - one related to curriculum and one related to campus life. They answered comprehensively. My interview lasted for about 25 minutes. Not a stress interview at all. Very conversational. P1 remained disinterested throughout. It felt like a tactic though. My personal energy was a little on the lower side that day since I had a fever for the past two days. All this notwithstanding, I think the two key reasons for my rejection are - IIMC prefers candidates with 9+ years of experience and from more traditional domains like Finance, BFSI, and IT. It places candidates too in the more traditional domains. So I might not have been a good fit for the program.
