Originally from India, I did my undergrad in the US and have been working in the US ever since (5+ years). I'm a certified PMP and currently work as a project manager for an EPCM firm that primarily serves life science/pharmaceutical companies. I was previously working for a pharma company as a project engineer and intend to pursue an MBA to switch back to pharma to assume a strategic/business focused role.

Average GMAT score for an Indian male (tough luck, my friend) and a weaker GPA (which cannot change). What you can change are: a) improving your GMAT score and/or b) recalibrating your selected schools.

Hi @reborn2024 , I hope you are doing well!

Your profile demonstrates strong expertise in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, strengthened by a PMP certification and progressive experience in project management roles. Your clear goal of transitioning into strategic, business-focused roles in pharma aligns well with your background, adding credibility to your aspirations. However, your lower GPA (2.84) and GMAT Focus score 655 (decent) but pose challenges for highly competitive schools like INSEAD and HBS. To strengthen your profile, consider retaking the GMAT to aim for a 10, 20 point + score, addressing your GPA through the optional essay, and emphasizing your leadership impact in key projects. Expanding your school list to include programs with strong healthcare and leadership focus, such as Fuqua, Ross, or Emory, may enhance your chances. By strategically showcasing your achievements and goals, you can position yourself as a strong candidate for top MBA programs. What's going to matter most in your application is how you connect the experiential dots and build a great story to stand out from other applicants in the pool.

If you’d like, we are happy to discuss more about your work experience, leadership skills, impact created, challenges faced, awards and achievements and extracurriculars to assess your chances to top B-schools and strengthen your application with impactful stories.

I am a reapplicant, I had admit from Rotman and W/L from USC and Tepper previously. I am a Indian CA and I work in one of the top investment banks in Alternative investment - Fund Controlling, I worked in another top IB in Private Equity - fund controlling previously. I want to get into a good MBA program, with scholarship prefreably to switch my carreer from accounting based roles to more front end roles.

Looking at the averages for Booth and Johnson and other T15 Programs for your demographics, it probably makes sense to retake. I would aim 20-30 points above the average (if possible)

Hi @Sr.Garfield , I hope you are doing well!

Your profile has good fundamentals with a strong GPA (3.8), a GRE score of 321, and relevant experience in private equity and alternative investments at top investment banks. As a reapplicant with prior admits (Rotman) and waitlists (USC, Tepper), you’ve already demonstrated competitiveness. Your CA qualification and your desire to transition from accounting-focused roles to front-end private equity work are clear strengths, showcasing ambition and industry alignment. However, a GRE score of 321 is slightly below the average for top MBA programs, especially given the competitive Indian applicant pool. A GRE score closer to or above 330 would better position you for top programs and scholarships. If feasible, consider retaking the GRE to strengthen your application.

For crafting short-term and long-term goals, emphasize how an MBA will bridge the gap between your accounting experience and your aspirations in front-end roles. Focus on showcasing leadership potential, quantifiable impact in your roles, and any client-facing exposure. If you’d like, we are happy to discuss more about your work experience, leadership skills, impact created, challenges faced, awards and achievements and extracurriculars to assess your chances to top B-schools and strengthen your application with impactful stories.

Hi Samyak1929
I am Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO. Speaking about your chances, your GMAT score is slightly below the average for Ross, (average-719) while your GPA is pretty low (average- 3.43), now you will need to compensate for your GPA, is there a chance for a retake since you are targeting R2? or are there any additional certifications that you can use to establish your academic potential.
With just about 3 years of work experience, will you able to highlight leadership skills and impact generated from your end? Adcoms at Ross greatly value leadership skills, collaborative nature and able to generate and demonstrate impact.

Hi. Is that 3.05 a wester GPA or your translation? If that's a conversion - how does it compare to the rest of the folks?
655 and 3.05 (if US-based) is a tough call. You would need around 695 if applying as India/Asia tech male.
P.S. Having a strong brand on the resume is good however
PPS. 3 years of work experience is a bit below average as well, so you want to show some seniority or maturity as that will be a question.

Your scores do not place you well for the schools you have listed. A look at the class profile will give you the message. The averages do not apply for Indian male engineers. You need to offer them more than average of class profiles.

In my current role, I am an advisor (formal term used is Officer on Special Duty) to Cabinet Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting & Electronics and IT, Government of India. I have been working in my current role for more than 30 months.

I am an Indian Civil servant. I ranked <450 out of more than 500 thousand candidates who took the Civil Services Exam in 2012.

In my civil service career, I have led field divisions (comprising more than 2 thousand people) of Department of Posts (India Post) India's national postal operator. I was instrumental in managing the roll out of digitization projects such as Core Banking Solution and Core System Integration. I have also served in the International Relations Division of the Department. I was part of 3 member delegation that represented India at the Universal Postal Union's congress (the supreme authority of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) that meets every four years) held in Istanbul in 2016.

I am a lawyer by education. I completed by law degree from National Law School of India, Bangalore, considered the most renowned law school in India, in 2009. I worked in the Project Finance team of a top Indian law firm for a short while.

After my law firm stint, I headed the law test prep wing of a leading test prep player in India. I coached students in several cities in India including in Kashmir where I was stationed for almost 4 months.

Wow. You have amazing stats and equally amazing profile. You are very accomplished! But the 14 years of experience will make AdCom wonder if their MBA will give you what you are looking for and if their career services team can actually help you get a job that would make you happy. Recruiting for consulting, you will be applying for the same job as 27-year-olds with just four or five years of work experience. You will also be surrounded by 27-year-olds as that is the average age in most business schools.

However, having a law degree may be a very helpful side in your profile. In the US that takes 3 years and so MBA lawyers tend to be few and older…. And I think you have a lot to add and bring to business schools so I think they’ll appreciate your application.

I have known a few older folks who went to Booth in their 30’s. I wouldn’t count on HBS or Stanford just because they are extremely competitive but that’s never a reason not to apply.

PS. You never know how the applications will stack and fall and if you are looking for a consulting career, Harvard, Stanford, and Wharton I’m not the best schools. You will be just as successful going to Kellogg or booth or Sloan or talk or Fuqua or Ross or Yale. They place a ton of people into consulting roles, Columbia as well obviously.

I think as you are reaching a sensitive work experience threshold for a full-time program, and therefore risk is high and you don’t want to wait another year, I would expand the number of applications unless it all put a significant burden. This is not because I don’t believe in your profile but rather risk mitigation and also shopping for scholarships… 🤜

Hello, I hope you are well. I agree with BB on most things. But there is no denying that B-schools love applicants who bring in extra pizzaz aka brand names and top level associations. Working on the apex bodies of one of the largest economies would make you a good catch. And I can see why you would not want to compromise by adding slightly lower ranked schools to your target list.

My recommendation: go all out and reflect on the grassroots changes you have brought about through your work. I am sure you will have plenty of examples to back this up. And get some very good letters of recommendation. Now is the time to ask for passionately worded letters of recommendation (strong advocacy) from people who matter most (high level managers/bureaucrats you have worked with). Be pragmatic about your goals strategy and show flexibility. Life is a journey. You may have to take a more progressive path toward your dream career and not achieve it on day one after you graduate.

If you want to be an HBS graduate, you should start thinking like one and plan your application accordingly :)

Hi,

I see you have not applied to any of the Sloan Fellows programs. You have an amazing profile and I think you have a great shot at these if you already have a GMAT score. The median experience for these programs is around 12-15 years.

The programs are offered at Stanford (MSx), MIT (Sloan Fellows MBA), and LBS (Sloan Fellows MBA). Please check these out if you haven't.

Fantastic score, esp for someone with 10 years of work experience! Fantastic GPA as well! Everything is awesome. I think the key is outlining how MBA Fits in with your career but I am pretty sure schools like Fisher and Tepper will salivate at your scores. I think all T15's will. M7's are picky and will be wondering about your employability a bit - 10 years of work experience likely carries some seniority so they will be evaluating if you are too senior for them to help you. The key to success with M7s would be to say that you basically have a job lined up and you just need an MBA so they are not worried or concerned that they can't add value to your profile.

Thanks! Yep, it's interesting applying as an older student. My choices are geographically limited by my partner's career options - definitely no Tuck or Johnson! As we start a family we are also very financially conscious. Very possible I go in-state to UNC or OSU (ohio buckeye forever grant) over a more prestigious school, regardless of acceptances, or even our local school P/T. (TLDR: we decided I would swing for the fences, or go cheap.)

Makes sense. If family and financing are a question, a lower-ranked program would be free, which would make it cheaper even than a PT program potentially where you have to kill yourself at night after a day of work. It is pretty annoying and little time is left for family and rest.

Hi @pmaples , I hope you're doing well. Congratulations on the interview invite from Fisher!

With 10 years of experience in the technology sector, a solid GMAT score of 715, and a strong GPA of 3.79, your profile is competitive for top MBA programs. Your technical background provides depth and unique insights, but transitioning into corporate finance/strategy will require a clear and compelling narrative. Admissions committees will want to understand why this shift makes sense for your career and how your technical skills will contribute to success in a strategic or financial role. Highlight any exposure to business strategy, financial decision-making, or leadership roles in your current or past positions to demonstrate your readiness for this transition. Make sure to frame your technical expertise as a strategic asset, and show how the MBA will bridge the gap between your current role and your future goals in corporate finance or strategy. With strong leadership examples and a well-articulated story, your profile has the potential to stand out in a competitive applicant pool.

As we have very little information now, we cannot comment much on your profile. If you’d like, we are happy to discuss more about your work experience, leadership skills, impact created, challenges faced, awards and achievements and extracurriculars to shortlist assess your chances to top B-schools and strengthen your application with impactful stories.

Hi

I am Harsha am applying for the LBS/ INSEAD MIM program for the Class of 2027 and am preparing for the first application round. I have achieved an average GRE score of 326 with a verbal score of 162 and a quantitative score of 164. Academically, I hold a CGPA of 9.81 from ICFAI Hyderabad graduated in 2023.
My experience includes three internships, three years working in my family business as operations head during my under graduation where I worked in 3 site projects , and currently working in Pepsico as HR executive from 2023 July. And I am SME of one process at PepsiCo.

Additionally, I have gained international experience through work assignments for the USA, South Africa, and various APAC countries.Managing both my job and the family business makes it very challenging to find time for GRE preparation. I also have extra curriculum activities like I am the former head and founder member of entrepreneurship club in my college and worked in various community activities like PepsiCo plastic collecting program etc.

Can anyone rate my profile

Hey @Harsha141 , I hope you are doing well.

We see that you got dinged from LBS and INSEAD. We understand how tough it is to get a rejection from a school. It's a difficult moment, but it can also be a stepping stone to your success. We've put together an article on the " Major reasons why your MBA Application got dinged. " It provides some understanding of mistakes you might have made and improve them next time. Take a moment to review it, reflect on what you can adjust, and get ready to put your best foot forward next time. You’ve got this!

If you plan to apply for some more schools in the next rounds/ intake, we’d be happy to evaluate your profile and help refine your strategy. Together, we can identify strengths, address gaps, and ensure you present your best story to your dream schools.

Interested? Let’s connect and start planning your path forward!

Hi Harsha141
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Your GRE looks good, along with your GPA and work experience, were you able to identify what might have gone wrong? It will be crucial for you to work on that. Good Luck for ESSEC.
