Hey,
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, 2 years of experience looks on the lower end for an FT MBA at ISB. Do you have any mock scores yet? Aim for a score above 655 for a stronger application. I would like you to share more details about your work experience and ECs.

I’d be happy to offer you a free profile review for top MBA programs to see where you stand and how to boost your chances— happy to help!

Education:

- Scored a perfect 10/10 CGPA in 10th grade
- Scored 91% in 12th grade (Commerce stream)
- Qualified Chartered Accountant
- Completed B.Com from IGNOU (correspondence) with 62% — the score was affected due to credit transfers between B.Com subjects and my CA course (where marking is tougher)
- Cleared CFA Level 1. Chose not to pursue CFA Level 2, as it was not directly aligned with long-term professional goals.

Career:
- 2 year of experience at a Big 4 firm in Transaction Tax
- 2 years at a non-Big 4 firm in the same field
- Promoted once and consistently received the highest internal performance ratings (top ~5%) over the last 4 years.
- Interned (articleship) for 3 years for a boutique general audit and tax firm

Extracurriculars:
- Didn’t attend traditional college, so limited ECs
- However, I’ve worked with a few NGOs on a pro bono basis during my job, using my professional skills to support their work. I also had the opportunity to interact directly with their leadership and contribute in meaningful ways.

International Exposure:
- Some of the clients I’ve worked with are global companies, which gave me the chance to collaborate with international teams and consultants across different countries.

Career Goals
Short-term: Move into Investment Banking
Long-term: Progress toward a C-suite leadership role at a Fortune 500 company and eventually build my own company

Hi @GettingToISB27
Thanks for sharing your profile

Your academic progression is strong but yes, the BCom percentage is a roadblock. However, you can compensate for this with your GMAT score. 700+ would be ideal for your profile, especially considering the immense competition for ISB. Having a CFA L1 certification works in your favor and enhances your overall application.

A 4-year work ex in tax-focused roles along with the Big 4 prestige, your promotion, and evident performance (top 5% rating) makes your career story very appealing. But here’s where the story will need sharpening: Transaction Tax is adjacent but not directly equivalent to M&A deal advisory / investment banking exposure. You’ll need to show evidence of skills like valuation modeling, deal structuring, capital markets understanding, etc. Without this, the IB pivot story will not seem aligned with your background. Also, the non-Big 4 role will need to be positioned carefully and your contributions and impact should be conveyed well. It’s good that you’ve worked with international clients but try to specify which regions were they based out of to add more depth to your application and to show awareness of those markets.

Moreover, AdComs will love the fact that you have used your professional skills outside your work and to help the society. But ensure that you show how this has nurtured you into a holistic leader.

Speaking of your goals, the outline is fine but specificity really matters. It’s important that you have absolute clarity on your plans. For your short-term goal in IB, think about
- What bank tier you want to work in?
- Which coverage / product area?

Even your long-term plan of working at C-suite level and then owning your company sounds very generic at the moment. There should be a connecting arc in your goals: transaction work – leadership path – entrepreneurship. Also, when speaking of establishing your company, you should emphasize what type of company, what services will it offer, who will be your target clients, etc. This should also tie into your backstory.

While ISB is one school you can target, we would suggest to target international schools, especially those in Europe and Singapore, as well since ISB has limited hiring for IB roles.

With R1 application submissions for ISB slated for September 14, 2025, we understand that building a carefully curated application is essential.
Hence, we’d love to offer a 1-on-1 profile evaluation to dive deeper into your strengths, discuss more about your portfolio, talk through your fit across schools, and co-create a tailored application game plan!

@GettingToISB27 -Your academic grades (schooling) look strong. The CA qualification and CFA Level 1 are strengths, though you'll need to address the lower grades in your B.Com. A strong GMAT score (ideally 20+ points above the published average of your target programs) will thus be crucial.

Your work-ex is interesting, given the exposure to Transaction/ Tax at both Big 4 and non-Big 4 firms, promotion and recognitions. A direct pivot to IB will require a very compelling narrative, highlighting your transferable skills. Alternatively, it may be worth reassessing the goals.

Feel free to reach out through the links below for a deeper chat.

After spending 3.5 years as a corporate banker/analyst and Bank of Georgia and over 3 years as a banker at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, I plan to pivot into management consulting in the U.S. market, aiming to join an MBB firm. Building on my experience in the manufacturing sector and sustainability financing, I seek to advise clients on strategy and transformation with a strong focus on industrials and sustainable growth. At the same time, I remain open to exploring new private sectors as well, building on my existing experience on other various markets (hospitality, retail, agribusiness).

Hello Kristine, you have strong banking credentials across corporate banking and EBRD, with experience in sustainability financing.

The consulting pivot is logical, but the missing piece is the GMAT. Without a score in the 695+ range, your MBB target and schools like Wharton, Booth, and Sloan will be difficult to reach.

You should also work on quantifying the financial impact and strategic results of your deals or projects. While your sector coverage is broad, admissions will look for clear leadership and problem-solving stories where you drove outcomes, not just participated in transactions. Focus on tightening your goals, retaking the GMAT if necessary, and preparing structured impact stories.

Hey @Kristine Natchkebia,
With your demographics, and WE (though seeing quantifiable achievements would have given us a better understanding of what differentiates you), your MBA can help you achieve your goals. Your maturity of 7 years of WE adds further to your strengths.
However, for all these schools, a strong GMAT (705+ recommended esp since your GPA is less than stellar) would help you clinch admissions.

More details of your ECs/ Leadership in non-professional space/ other interests, and challenges in your story would make your case further stronger

Hope that helps. Please submit your profile for a Free Assessment over a 1:1 call. https://theivyleagueedge.com/index.php/contactus/

Thanks for sharing your profile, @Kristine Natchkebia! You seem to bring a good foundation to the table, 7 years of experience in investment banking across both the Bank of Georgia and the EBRD, with deep exposure to sectors like manufacturing, sustainability finance, hospitality, retail, and agribusiness.

Profile strengths that stand out: Significant investment banking background. Sustainability and industrials provide an ESG and operations lens that’s increasingly rare and relevant to firms like McKinsey, BCG, and Bain. Working in Georgia and with the EBRD gives you a nuanced, transnational view of markets and development, often underestimated in strategy contexts. From IB to Consulting in operations/industry transformation is a natural, strategic shift. Getting a GMAT FE score of 695+ will enhance your competitiveness across schools like Booth, Sloan, Wharton, and Columbia. Consider a finance prep course to strengthen your academic credibility and readiness for analytic-heavy programs.

Storytelling & personal narrative are crucial, schools increasingly seek authentic, emotionally intelligent leaders. Differentiate beyond “Typical IB Candidate”, use your sustainability and sector-specific stewardship to stand out. Think of it as a point of narrative uniqueness, not just experience. Highlight cross-functional leadership, influence without authority, and real-world ESG impact on deals, transformations, or efficiencies.

Do you have experience working across borders, coordinating with international stakeholders? Frame that clearly in essays or recommendations.

Beyond your main school list, you can also explore schools like Ross and Johnson.

.Questions to fine-tune your profile:
1) Have you led any ESG-focused financing or transformation projects that are quantifiable?
2) What leadership roles, formal or informal, have you held in professional, community, or social impact capacities?
3) Do you have any exposure to U.S. markets or clients that could assist your consulting target narrative?
4) Have you engaged in extracurriculars or volunteer initiatives that speak to social or sustainable leadership?

We would love to learn more about your extracurricular activities, professional experience, and personal journey so we can offer a more tailored assessment of your profile and evaluate your chances at your target schools more accurately. If you'd like, feel free to book a profile evaluation session.

University Education: Mechanical Engineering (B-Eng) from NTU, Singapore (Top 10-15 university in the world)

GPA: 4.8/5 (First Class Honors - Highest Distinction)
++ Dean's List (top 5% student) for 2 out of 4 years

GMAT Focus:
Test 1: Overall score - 675; Quant-87 (94 percentile), Verbal-83 (83 percentile), DI-80 (83 percentile)
Test 2: Overall score - 685; Quant-88 (96 percentile), Verbal-80 (56 percentile), DI-84 (97 percentile)

Job Experience -
Operations, Tier 1 Ecommerce company (~4 years at Matriculation). Worked in strategy operations with multifunctional teams to launch new initiatives that brought more than $10M cost reduction. Heavily involved in AI-power automation - developed tool to automate processes and reduce E2E.

I got promoted to a senior role. I do not directly manage anyone yet but i have mentored several new members and am responsible for them.

Extra Curriculars:
Heavily involved in sports
A bunch of clubs in university (culture club, tech club, community involvement club).
Have many volunteering experiences but few which are with formal organisations.

Post MBA goals:
continue with strategy operations in an advanced managerial role

International Experience:
Studied and currently working in Singapore. At work, collaborate with a lot of regions in Southeast asia and Latin america. Travel frequently on business trip to these regions - once a quarter on average for the past 3 years

Which GMAT score should I use for my application - even though 685 is higher, the verbal section percentile score is lower than 675 score?
What are my realistic chances to get LBS/Cambridge/Oxford/Imperial. What can I do to improve my profile?

Hello, your academic performance from NTU and cost-reduction achievements in e-commerce give you a strong base.

The GMAT Focus 685 is decent for Imperial and Judge, but for LBS and Said, you should ideally be at 695+ to be comfortably competitive. Since your verbal score in the 675 test is stronger, use that attempt if it shows a better balance.

You do not yet have direct people management experience, this will be a weakness for top UK schools unless you emphasize mentorship and cross-regional leadership in your essays. International exposure is a plus, but you should link it clearly to your post-MBA strategy operations goal. Consider taking on formal leadership before applying.

Hi @nevermindwhat,

Use your 685 GMAT score since it’s higher overall and shows excellent quantitative and data interpretation strengths, which are crucial for operations roles. The slightly lower verbal percentile (56%) won’t significantly hurt given your strong profile and work experience. You can also offset that by asking your recommenders to highlight your communication skills in the LORs.
Your academic performance, 4 years in strategy operations at a top-tier e-commerce company with tangible impact ($10M+ savings) and international exposure is a solid asset. While you don’t have formal people management, mentoring experience is valuable and can be highlighted. Emphasize leadership impact through mentoring, cross-functional collaboration, and global project ownership. Strong, focused essays clarifying your post-MBA strategy operations goals and international experience will help.
You have a competitive profile for the UK schools that your targeting. To maximize your chances, consider applying to a balanced mix of reach, target, and safety schools.
Feel free to book a free call with our MBA experts for a more detailed discussion. You can also contact us directly at [email protected] or +91-7780769732.

Hi @nevermindwhat,
Here's a profile assessment
Work Experience: 3 years — On the younger side for UK MBAs (LBS/Saïd/Judge average ~5 years; Imperial ~6). Shorter experience can work if your application/ resume/ other parts demonstrate fast career progression and clear leadership impact (leadershio is NOT the same as managing people/ team directly or otherwise)

Your Indian ethnicity is generically overrepresented in MBA applicant pools, though slightly less intense competition in UK schools.

Your GMAT Focus score of 685 is below average for LBS/Saïd/Judge, though it is closer to range for Imperial.
GPA: 4.8/5 — Excellent; shows strong academic capability. NTU & Dean's list further add on to the perceived excellence
Your application would also do well to articulate what new scope, international exposure, or leadership level you’re targeting that requires an MBA.

Hope that helps. Please submit your profile for a Free Assessment over a 1:1 call. https://theivyleagueedge.com/index.php/contactus/

Hey
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, I see a strong academic background with a Mechanical Engineering degree from NTU Singapore, graduating with First Class Honours and landing on the Dean’s List twice. This shows strong academic discipline, which is important for competitive programs. Your GMAT FE score is competitive.

On the work front, 4 years in operations and strategy at a Tier-1 e-commerce company stands out, especially your $10M cost-reduction achievement and experience with AI-powered automation. Your promotion, mentoring experience, and frequent international business travel to Southeast Asia and Latin America all show leadership potential and global exposure, qualities adcoms at top schools value.

Your post-MBA goal of advancing in strategy operations in e-commerce is aligned with your past work and should come across as credible. However, since you don’t directly manage a team yet, you’ll need to highlight leadership without formal authority, mentoring, driving projects, and influencing senior stakeholders. Your ECs, especially in sports, clubs, and volunteering, can help show you as a well-rounded candidate, though you might want to showcase recent impact-oriented involvement to strengthen this further.

Can you share specific examples of how you’ve influenced decisions or driven change without having direct managerial authority?

To help sharpen your positioning across platforms, ARINGO is offering a free LinkedIn profile optimization, which can help you better align your story for both adcoms and recruiters.

I’d also be happy to offer you a free profile review for your target MBA programs to see where you stand and how to boost your chances, happy to help!

Hi Brenda, would be happy to evaluate your profile for these 2 schools given more information. Are you currently in Brazil and could transfer your job to the US, to attend CBS EMBA? Just noting that Sloan Fellows options with MIT and Stanford are full time 1 year programs but for EMBA you are expected to be working full time. So EMBA is part time.

Hi @jengastar,

You have a high-potential profile with a strong academic base, relevant finance experience, and an emerging leadership narrative through your work in digital transformation. Your role in credit IB at a leading US bulge-bracket firm, combined with CFA L1 and recognition from the division CFO, demonstrates technical depth and initiative - great strengths for a consulting pivot. While your extracurriculars lack sustained depth right now, the early involvement and diversity of efforts show promise. You still have time to deepen your impact, focus on consistent engagement over the next year, even if it's with a single cause or initiative.

GMAT: Being an Indian applicant with a finance background, you would be part of an overrepresented candidate pool - I’d encourage you to aim for a 695+ score to strengthen your application and stay competitive at the top-tier programs.

It will be crucial to build an authentic, compelling narrative. Focus on articulating your goals and career transition plan clearly - make sure your goals are specific and well-defined. Connect your past experiences to your future goals, highlight the specific skills or exposure you're seeking and explain how the MBA will help you gain these to achieve your goals.

Feel free to book a free call with our MBA experts for a more detailed discussion. You can also contact us directly at [email protected] or +91-7780769732.

Thank you for sharing your profile @jengastar! A CS degree from BITS Pilani with an 8.4 GPA plus a CFA Level 1 under your belt signals strong academic and quantitative ability, which top schools appreciate, especially for candidates from overrepresented groups like Indian males in finance/tech. Your role at a leading U.S. bulge bracket firm in credit investment banking is impressive. What adds real differentiation is your demonstrated ability to bridge tech + finance through internal innovation, AI literacy, and coding initiatives, these are compelling for schools like MIT Sloan, Booth, and Stanford. The award from the division CFO for shaving 20-25% workload via a project shows leadership, problem-solving, and ownership traits that B-schools value highly. Your involvement in tribal outreach and local initiatives may not be ongoing, but the depth of early exposure and intent to do more before application can still be shaped into a strong “why” story. Many applicants have gaps in consistency, but authenticity and a clear plan forward matter more.

A GMAT score (target 695+) is critical for M7, given your overrepresented demographic. Aim to finish your prep soon and leave ample time for app building. You’ve had meaningful engagement, but it’s episodic. If you can commit to one consistent initiative over the next few months (like mentoring underprivileged students, joining an NGO’s strategic/finance wing), it will round out your profile beautifully. You’re already doing a lot within your team, but try to formalize mentorship, lead a cross-functional AI workshop, or even build a volunteer-led project outside work. This reflects initiative and community building, which schools like Wharton and Kellogg love.

In terms of school fit & application strategy, you’re already aiming high (Booth, Stanford, Sloan, Wharton, etc.), and that’s reasonable, provided your GMAT lands 695+ and you articulate your "Finance x Tech" narrative with clarity. Here's how some of your targets align:

Stanford, MIT Sloan: love innovation + impact. Lean into your AI initiatives, automation work, and early social work.

Booth, Wharton: fits for quant/finance backgrounds. Your award-winning project and sectoral analysis strengths are big assets.

Kellogg: values collaboration, leadership, and personal touch. Emphasize your mentoring and extra efforts in team building.

LBS, INSEAD: strong European fits. Your global awareness and goals can work well; highlight an international mindset and short- and long-term plans.

Build out your "tech-finance" arc and how your MBA helps you become a consulting leader, bridging AI + finance.

Suggested Reflection Questions:
1. How will your tech + finance experience contribute to a diverse classroom discussion?
2. Why MBA now and why consulting after IB? Clarify the motivation.
3. What’s your vision of impact post-MBA (like, solving inefficiencies in finance using tech)?
4. How would you describe your leadership style?

If you'd like help brainstorming or structuring your essays/resume/storyline, feel free to book a profile evaluation session.

Hi, thanks for sharing.

You’re classic Indian IB → MBB material, but that’s exactly the issue. No GMAT yet, so assume you need a 695+ to stand out.

Your digital projects and CFA L1 help, but your ECs are surface-level. You need to go deeper and build out one sustained social impact or entrepreneurial initiative before apps.

Think Wharton, Booth, MIT, not Stanford unless your story becomes personal and deeply differentiated.

Let’s map out your GMAT timeline and gap-filler projects.

I'm kind of curious about why you applied to Anderson executive with three years of work experience. My school list for media or entertainment would be Anderson full time, USC, NYU, CBS. You might toss in some reach schools as well, like Kellogg, if you can bring up your test score a little bit Stanford GSB, especially for gaming, HBS.

Are you trying to go from T2 to MBB? I'm trying to understand your school choices. Might add 1-year at Kellogg.

@Harvey.H , you have 3years of experience, which is on the lower end for M7 schools, so your application needs to be exceptional. GMAT 685+ is a must to stay competitive in finance-heavy applicant pools. Your story needs to be strong, showing clear progression from diversified financial services to investment banking, backed by leadership roles and high-impact achievements. Consider gaining another year of experience. Also, expand your school list, add some more schools to improve your chances. Good luck!

If you want to deep dive into positioning and application strategy, let’s chat, feel free to book a profile evaluation session.

Investment banking isn't really a thing at the GSB or Sloan, i would encourage you to apply to schools that or maybe slightly lower ranked but strong in this area, such as NYU, Tuck, Duke, Cornell and Darden.

Hi Ben, i'm a little curious about how you arrived at your school selection and what you're planning to do you via the mba, with twenty years of experience, I imagine that you will be going for executive options?
