Imperial’s interview this year is conducted on Shortlister It’s a quick-thinking, high-pressure format designed to test structure, clarity, and composure. If you receive the interview invite, it’s a strong signal that they already like your profile. Some Points I want to highlight Format Written Assignment You will get 10 minutes to write the answer. I got the Question "Describe the situation when you get very low marks than expected, how you react, and how you handle that situation." A well-structured written response is crucial. You must address all parts of the question clearly and avoid grammatical errors. Video Assignment Total Questions: 5 Format: Recorded video questions Preparation time: 5 seconds Response time: 1–2 minutes (only one take) Tip: They allow you to think for 5–10 seconds at the start of your recording. Better to pause briefly and structure than rush Questions I received 1. Introduce yourself + standout professional achievement + extracurriculars + why should they pick you over other candidates? I followed a clean structure: introduction → career so far → key professional win → major extracurricular experience → why I stand out 2. Why MIM at Imperial? Focused on Imperial’s technology + management blend, global exposure, and alignment with my career goals in product/UX and strategy 3. Describe a film without naming it. (Be ready for these kinda questions also) I used Friends , described it as a story of six people navigating their 20s, friendship, humor, life lessons, etc. Simple and relatable 4. Teamwork example – describe a situation where you had to present information to a team, your approach, and insights. Shared my experience from one of my experiences. Context: tackling a process issue linked to a 15cr loss Stakeholders involved My approach: using pictorial wireframes for clarity Iterations after feedback Outcome: team alignment + better decision-making This was my answer 5. What will you choose, Open AI or Google, and how do you think that organizations will change near future My Key Takeaways and Tips from my experience 1. Practice speaking for 1 minute on common questions 2. Use clean structures: STAR, Past–Present–Future, ABC (Answer–Because–Context). 3. Don’t panic during the 5-second preparation; they expect a short pause 4. The written question is as important as the video 5. Always follow STAR approach (giving context about the situation, what you did, and what the results were) prepare all the questions provided by Dexter43 (they really help!). I had my interview with Margaret O'Neill, an external MBA admission consultant. She was very lovely and nice. The interview was very conversational and focused on my story/career progression. I would say it's a culture fit check rather than a knowledge check. - Tell me about yourself (She told me she has read my CV only. She didn’t get my essay from the ad comm, so she will need to ask a lot of questions to understand more about me.) - Why did you switch industries? (I switched industries twice) - From what you mentioned, you get job opportunities from referral often. What is the quality that sets you apart and makes people constantly want to refer you to their company? (I mentioned that I got job offers from a referral from my ex-colleague and ex-clients.) - Short-term career goal - Which locations and why? - Long-term career goal - Why MBA? - Why Now? - Why Imperial? - What is your plan B, if your career doesn’t work out the way you want? - Describe your leadership style - If you have to work with or lead an inefficient team members, what would you do? - Tell me about a time you fail - Is there anything you really need to work on or still lacking coming in to the Imperial MBA? How would you develop these areas while studying in the program? - Anything you want to ask. (She said she is an external consultant and couldn’t provide any specific details about the program since the beginning of the interview. So, I didn’t ask any questions but told her that I will contact the adcom directly.) The interview lasted for exactly 30 minutes. Read Less
