Hi
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, you have a strong and quite unique profile, especially for your target programs. Your NUS background + R&D to startup to NPI in China shows a clear progression from technical depth to commercialization and manufacturing scale, which is a great story for your stated goal of staying in manufacturing. The international exposure is also a big plus.

With about 6 years of experience, you’re in a good range for your target schools, and your profile fits well with programs that value global ops, product, and manufacturing leadership.

Your GMAT score will be a crucial factor. You should aim for a 685+ score to stay competitive. Also, make sure you clearly highlight impact (product launches, scale, cost, timelines, leadership) and not just responsibilities.

I’d be happy to offer you a free profile review for your target programs to see where you stand and how to boost your chances, happy to help!
No pressure, no strings - just helpful insights on where you stand and how you can strengthen your chances.

While your profile looks nice, I have a few questions to understand is better:
1. Is your NUS Research Engg experience of 2 years 9 months a full time engagement or part time, while you were studying for masters? If its not full time experience, that would reduce the total number of years you report as FT experience. Although you will still be eligible to apply to b-schools, its something for you to keep in mind.
2. Some details on your goals would help in understanding your candidature better. What is your career goal? which role/ company/ sector do you want to work in, post-MBA? Is it not possible for you to make the change without an MBA?
Be mindful that b-schools pay immense attention to career goals because they want to be sure you need the skills/ network an MBA provides for your future goals. Your career aspirations should be realistic, yet ambitious - something which you cannot achieve on your own (or the path to achieve them is excruciatingly long). I am asking this question because you mention you want to remain in manufacturing post MBA.

1. My Research Engineer role at NUS was a full-time position after I completed my Master’s degree, so it counts as full-time work experience.

2. Thank you for your questions.

i) My current role is mostly technical and I work for a contract manufacturer where I focus on solving manufacturing and engineering problems.

ii) After my MBA, I want to move into larger consumer electronics companies like Apple, dell or samsung in roles such as product management, NPI manager or GSM

iii) I feel this transition is difficult without an MBA because my current role is focused more on technical execution, while these roles require stronger business understanding, leadership and supply chain strategy exposure. An MBA would help me bridge that gap and prepare me better for these positions.

Thanks for the update; it makes so much more sense now.
An MBA consultant who worked with me in my team for several years, followed a similar career path like yours - he was an engineer, did a masters at NUS after Engg in India, worked in technical roles and then did the Kellogg 1 year MBA (which is also your target b-school).
In addition to an R&D role, its a great thing you have also worked on product commercialization, because this experience, along with your new role with the China company should enable you to show quantified business impact along with an understanding of business. That feeds well into your goals - as you mentioned you want to move into more business focussed roles where you can make a larger impact, but the way to break in is impossible for you without an MBA.
Pinpoint the companies, roles and geography you want to work in and then research on how feasible would it be for you given that you are an international student who will need visa sponsorship. Also research for alternate career paths, which may sound more feasible from a post-MBA employment perspective.
Your foremost task right now is to ace the GMAT/ GRE. DO you have any recent ECAs? If not, this would be another area to beef up.

Would be happy to talk to discuss your profile further.
