Hi Pooja. I did not realize you were so experienced and senior.

Usually going into less common areas such gov or ngo, where only 1% of mba grads find a job, is not a strong play. Similarly having more than 10 years of work experience makes you too senior for the FT programs but it may just work with this combination.

I think what can help the most is for you to start speaking with people who are working in your field / dream job you want to get after the mba. This will make your goals much more real, show adcom you did your homework, and grow your network which will help recruit after mba. As mentioned NGO and non profit/gov sector is quite small.

Hi Bb, Sorry, for the delay in response. However, I have a strong passion for a non-profit organization and know getting into a two-year FT program would be challenging. I have already sent my resume to the desired university program where I hope to apply in Round 2. Just for your information, I have received a positive response from the universities as to where I need to apply after taking the Gmat. I know there are other components too that play a major role in our selection process but I am quite confident about myself that a genuine reason for applying delay into the program will certainly help me to win this battle. I am even aware of the fact that I am from an over-represented country like India but that doesn't stop me from getting into the race. As we all know we WOMEN are always under-represented and also being from a non-technical background that stand out to look different from the other application pool from India.

Hi Pooja,

I would suggest going down impact consulting where you can marry your passion for impact and enhance your exposure and skillsets in the non-profit sector. Additionally, these firm pay decently well which maybe slightly critical post MBA if you are self financing and intend to stay in the United States. Some firms that do impact consulting are Dalberg, The Bridgespan Group, FSG, even the MBBs and Big 4s have expanded their practice in the impact domain.
Don't miss out on Yale SOM which is one of the best bets in the areas.

All the best!

I think passion is important. While non profit is very hard, impact consulting is less hard, and regular consulting is even less hard. I would perhaps make Non Profit as the long term goal and consulting as your short term out of MBA?

Sure, BB! I would keep everything in my mind while making an informed decision. I know it's not so easy to get into a Non-profit organization just after completion of an MBA program. But I have heard a lot of good and hopeful things from others. So. I am a little optimistic about this whole journey. I will try my level best to land to my dream destination point. Thank you so much for the guidance and support that I have received from you.

Please do due diligence on a critical aspect - H1B sponsorship for Indians. I read recently that WB stopped sponsoring H1B a few years ago.

Thank you for the response. But I have personally had a word with the World Bank where they mentioned that they sponsor visas to international students like me from India and as per the World Bank whoever is saying this they do not provide any sponsorship for visas to international students is not true. Thank you!

Won't debate on this. Instead, the proof of the pudding is in the stats published by USCIS. Look it up. Also read the following: https://pubdocs.worldbank.org/en/943231 ... -FAQs.pdf; last but not the least, have your Plans B, C and D lined up.

So, what are you trying to say should I deviate from goals and passion? I am consistently telling you that I am in contact with the World Bank, USIEF, and the US Embassy. And for my every query USIEF and US Embassy are my first point of contact. and I truly trust them. I hope I have made my point very clear.

Best wishes, Pooja. A reference to Transactional Analysis will be of help to you - I am sure you know of this, given your HR background.

Sorry, it seems the doc is not accessible... but I looked up the H1B database from Homeland Security - https://www.uscis.gov/tools/reports-and ... r-data-hub
Employer Data Hub for 2023 and World Bank is not listed an H1B sponsor. This is likely because they use a different visa type. Searching that I found this :

Quote:
STs with F-1 visa with pre-completion CPT employment authorization document (EAD) may only work part-time with the World Bank. [NOTE: ST employment of more than 30 hours a week makes STs eligible for a G-4 visa. State Department requires all staff eligible for a G-4 visa to obtain their G-4 visa in order to work for the Bank].

This is a rather fascinating world of visas. I did not know about the existence of G4 visa 🤷‍♂️

Thank you so much, Bb! Now, the link is accessible. I don't want to debate with anyone regarding the sponsorship of visas by the World Bank to international students who are from India. But, It's my passion to work with any non-profit organization. Let's say it could be the World Bank or GMAC(Non-profit Organisation). As suggested by you in your previous post I should keep my desire to work for a non-profit organization as my long-term goal (which is hard to achieve)and consulting as a short-term goal(which seems to be quite realistic and achievable). I completely agree on this point. That's it nothing else.

@poojaarora1818 World Bank doesn't sponsor H1B because the correct visa for an international student at the WB is the G4 (or G5, I forget) visa. My partner recently got interviewed for a position there so I know this (she is an Indian/F but she did a M.S. in Urban Planning at Columbia). Basically the G-visa is a sure-shot thing, not a lottery system like the H1B so it is also a much easier pathway to citizenship, if need be

Thank you so much for letting me know. My knowledge of the visa process is just like a beginner. I will keep everything in my mind while making any further decisions. Thank you!
