Intro
After 5 years working within large infrastructure construction projects as a Civil Engineer I have decided that now would be a good time for me to apply for an MBA. I have greatly enjoyed my time working as a civil Engineer and believe that I have had a meningful impact having managed a small team at the nuclear new build power station Hinkley point C one of the UK's largest construction projects and also worked within the design management team for HS2 liasing with multiple key stakeholders to ensure that design intent is complete, correct and issued within the correct timeframe.
Why MBA?
I believe that we are at a crucial moment globally in terms of energy strategy and infrastructure. Countries are looking to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and move towards greener alternatives. New nuclear technology optionssuch as small modular reactors and in the future fusion are on the horizon. These are not only technically but also financially and strategically challenging. With my previous experience in the Nuclear and construction sectors I would be looking to gain the financial and leadership qualities required to help realise the next generation of nuclear power.
Why now?
I have just received my chartership from the Institute of Civil Engineers and feel that I have a strong grounding in problem solving, technical Engineering and project management. I now feel ready to build on this with the MBA to give me the leadership skills and financial understanding to progress further. I would also like the opportunity to work within Switzerland or France having studied in France previously.
Extra curriculars:
- Represented my university as a road cyclist and mountainbiker.
- Cycled from London to paris in 24 hours for charity
- Speak french at a working proficiency level.
The only recommendation would be to connect/demonstrate how MBA will enable you to achieve your goal with nuclear energy. Perhaps go as far as think about what consulting companies or what energy companies you would look to work with, etc. You want to make sure Admissions sees you succeeding easily rather than trying to break into a very narrow field, failing, and potentially then being unhappy in the end. In other words, you want to demonstrate that your goals are rather achievable, that it can be done, and preferably show that it has been done.
