After 60 months of Experience as an Engineer in an Oil and Gas EPC and owing the Business, I wish to kick start my career post MBA as a Management consultant.
As a consultant, I would be gaining experience in all sorts of a business, be it Finance, operations or Marketing. The path forward to achieve my long term goal is by acquainting as much as possible in my early carrier path and run my own business.
I have chosen Management consultant heavy universities in my bucket list and the Top university for Operations and SCM as my Dream school.
About my Background (97% in both 10th and 12th, and 9.4 CGPA in B.E. (Gold Medal among 500+ Affiliated colleges),
Been the Chairman and secretary of many clubs and led a team of 50+ Students in Undergrad.
Awarded as "Best Emerging Leader" in the working organization due to successfully completing a part of 1.4 Billion USD project
Usually in consulting you will be given a project you can start contributing to immediately. This means you learn on your own and start adding value in ways you can until you figure things out. You won't be trained in marketing, finance and operations. Nobody has time for that but you can learn from observing others. You will have to work on the project as otherwise, nobody will pick you and rather pick experienced consultants who do not require training. Most likely you would be deployed in Oil and Gas consulting projects since that's your strength. Just FYI.
1. I am a continuation question on the same, can't I be learning the required skills in my MBA course and be job ready, right after my studies
2. If Change of field is required, could you please suggest how shall I craft my application and even my MBA journey
You learn very broad frameworks and ways to prioritize your time as well as manage stress and push yourself to the limits but you don’t really learn how Amazon warehouse functions for example or how Apple marketing works or how Microsoft tech PMs are expected to deliver their PPTs…
