My journey as a Product Manager has provided me with a deep understanding of how my work can make a meaningful impact on the world and has brought clarity to my life’s purpose. I believe that technology serves as a powerful equalizer, capable of improving living standards. My mission is to leverage technology to uplift those in less fortunate circumstances, both personally and professionally.

In the near term, I aim to continue developing impactful technology products as a Product Manager while gaining broader experience in managing different facets of business as a product leader. Eventually, I aspire to launch my own venture. Pursuing an MBA at this stage would accelerate my progress by enhancing my knowledge in finance, accounting, and economics, allowing me to gain practical experience through projects, and providing invaluable opportunities to network with entrepreneurs and investors in the industry.

Hey, mani007

Your profile for top MBA programs is strong, with over 6 years of working experience in tech, high GRE scores and a good GPA. You want to continue creating impactful technology products and eventually start your own business, both of which can easily be accomplished through an MBA.

Top programs such as UCLA Anderson, Foster, Tepper, Fuqua, Scheller, and McCombs will provide you with the right knowledge on how businesses operate as well as practical exposure and networking opportunities that will help you reach your goals. These programs have flexible curricula offering many electives, allow students to tackle real-world business problems, and possess vibrant start-up communities.

To enhance your applications, emphasize leadership experiences by quantifying the impact you have had on others and composing persuasive essays that narrate your story, uniquely fitting into every program.

With your strong profile and clear goals, you have a solid chance of gaining admission to these top MBA programs. Therefore, applying in Round 1 would give you an edge over other candidates who also apply at the same time despite having very different backgrounds from yours. Good luck with your application!

What is the scale against which one should look at your GPA: 7, 8, or 10? It could mean a huge difference if it is on 7 or on 8 / 10. If is 8 / 10, then you need to beef up your candidature much more, including improving your GRE scores.

Scores are a defense and, hence, the foundation of your candidacy, especially since you are an Indian, a male, and an engineer - three attributes you cannot change. I will skip my queries on the rest of your narrative for now.

I should have added that GPA is scored on 10. Missed adding the context

Then please definitely consider improving your GRE to 335 or higher. You may also want to pursue a few specific graded courses to alleviate concerns about your perceived ability to deal with the academic rigor of an MBA program. I also hope that you have evidence to showcase how you have already done something to use technology to improve living standards.

Hi @Mani007
I am Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO. Regarding your profile, your six years of product management expertise and your high GRE score put you in a good position for top MBA programs. Your enthusiasm for using technology to have a positive social effect is admirable and has the potential to weave a compelling story in your application. Your target schools align well with your career goals.

While your work experience and GRE is impressive, your GPA is on the lower end. Can you justify your low score? Are there any valid reasons to support it? You can also compensate for this by highlighting other academic achievements, such as challenging coursework, research projects, or academic awards.

You should work on crafting a compelling narrative, and also optimizing your application materials to maximize your chances of admit. One thing that impresses the adcoms is ‘impact’ try justifying it statistically wherever possible. With 6 years of experience, I am sure there would be several strong impactful projects which you can highlight in your application. You have also mentioned using technology for helping less fortunate people, do you have a plan for it? Or are there any examples you can share with the adcoms. This would help your profile stand out amidst the pool of applicants.

Hey Mani007,

Vashi here from LilacBuds.

You have a strong work experience with 6 years in Tech industry and a good GRE score which makes you a strong applicant for your target schools. But your GPA of 6.11/10 is a little on the lower end and will be a concern for these schools. What were the reason for the same? This needs to be elaborated in your essays or put it in perspective on what was the class average or where you stood in percentile wise.
You also need to make sure that your application essays reflect your strong professional experience and take into consideration your leadership skills. Do make sure that your post-MBA goals are clearly depicted in your application essays and how each specific school will be critical in helping you achieve the same. Reach out to alums/ current students of these schools to know more about these programs. This will assist in the long run for your applications.
Keep in mind that R1 will be your best bet and if you plan to consider R2 as well then you can look towards improving on your score which will improve your chances as well.

We at LilacBuds would love to assist you by connecting you to alums/ mentors of top B-schools and would therefore request more details about your profile.
