I spent 4 years in management consulting at a big 4 firm after graduating from college, but I have spent the last 1.5 years working as a professional poker player. Looking to get my MBA to transition back into the corporate world with a job in either media / entertainment or technology.
With 4 years of management consulting experience, your profile has a good foundation for MBA applications. Transitioning to professional poker adds a unique and compelling narrative, highlighting risk-taking, decision-making under pressure, and strategic thinking qualities valued in media/entertainment roles. Your poker career should be addressed thoughtfully in your essays, framing it as a strategic, growth-driven choice to enrich your story. However, your GMAT Focus score of 625 is below average for top MBA programs, and improving it (655+) could significantly boost your chances. Schools like UCLA, USC, and NYU Stern, with their strong ties to media and entertainment, could align with your goals. We would like to know more about your profile like work exp., achievements, challenges faced and impact created, these details will help us identify, if you can pull out good stories from your experience and shortlist schools for you.
If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a 1:1 call with you to discuss your profile in detail and gauge your chances to identify the best-fit schools. Please feel free to schedule a profile evaluation call according to your convenience.
