Work:

-2 years work experience in Germany, 2 years work experience in US.
-Career progression: Graduate trainee international sales (early promotion after 12 Months instead of 18 months) --> Sales Account Specialist --> Sales Operations Specialist (1st position in USA) --> Sales Manger
-Middle market company: $200m in rev., 800 employees, factories in Germany, Thailand, Sweden, subsidiaries worldwide
-Co-lead of biggest single order project in company history to date (~$7m in rev, completed with excellent KPIs compared to company wide average)
-Part of founding team of US subsidiary, coordinating with global team (Germany, USA, Thailand, Sweden)
-Few other small projects that had nothing to do with my job description but I saw potential for positive impact

EC:
-Volunteer reader at local elementary school
-Founded a network group for expats in my city and organizing monthly events (10 members of 7 nations)
-2 weeks volunteering in school in Zambia, Africa
-learning Spanish
-At work but voluntarily: Mentor for student in work+study bachelor's program

Other:
-1st generation college grad
- English + German fluent
-Personal development: Felt misplaced at college as a 1st gen, attended less and less classes and found refuge in an online video game where I ended up competing on international level and was well respected in the community. Meanwhile well below average grades and almost dropped out --> Had to make decision what do I want from life? Decided to lean into college, within the last two semesters that were left, improved my grades drastically and ended up graduating at least slightly above average. This was the spark which ignited a fire, making me feel that I actually do deserve to be where I am (graduating college) for the first time and it was when I started working where I had my final breakthrough and am (the/a) top performer ever since

Gute tag!
Elements of your defense strategy are in place. I didn't see your GPA and post-MBA goals quoted herein. Subject to these not proving detrimental to your candidacy, your essay narrative, CV, recommendations, etc. will be crucial.
viel Glück!

Hi Dee,
Appreciate your thoughts! GPA was 2.7 (1.0 being best) we received a percentile chart which ranks this grade in the 53rd percentile of all the graduates in my program+university in the past 5 years.
Post-MBA goal is consulting.
Life goal is founding my own business in education tech.
Oh and forgot to mention: My degree is in industrial engineering with focus on mechanical engineering.
Vielen Dank! :)

Bitte.
I am sure the schools would know about the scale used in German universities for UG. I also take it that you will need H1B sponsorship in due course post-MBA. So, yes. Targeting consulting will make sense. However, you should also consider what consulting firms look for in a candidate beyond the MBA credentials. You will be better placed if in your applications you highlight those key skills relevant for consulting so that schools also see your consulting goal as pragmatic and saleable. Your past will come along with you in your candidacy, both for the MBA applications and the recruitment post-MBA.

Hey. A very impressive profile at first glance, but of course there’s no denying that the extremely competitive schools you’re targeting take academics very seriously. Still, the fact that you’ve come full circle, having seen the value of education as a first-generation college graduate and now pursuing another degree, is exactly the kind of narrative they need to see.

Your multinational experience is a big plus and adds interesting layers. With such a global profile, be sure to highlight your thoughts on dealing with cultural nuances in very international teams. Honestly, I think you just have to wait and see how things play out at HBS and GSB — you are incredibly close to gaining admits to the other schools. If your goals are in ed-tech, make sure you provide enough context in your essays so that they don’t suddenly seem disjointed. You don’t want adcoms to be surprised by your goals essay, so build toward the goals narrative in the rest of the application too.
I am an engineer too with industrial engineering background and worked in similar setups between France, USA, Thailand and China. I really hope you crack all the admits :D

Best wishes
