With over 7 years of technical experience in the R&D division of a leading FinTech company, I specialize in building enterprise-scale applications and data-driven solutions that enhance customer experience for major financial institutions—our product is used by 9 out of the top 10 banks in the U.S. My role blends backend development with data science and analytics, where I work extensively with large-scale financial datasets (petabyte scale) to develop intelligent features, predictive models, and decision-support tools that directly impact product performance and user satisfaction.

Education Background:
I hold a B.Tech degree from NIT Delhi, a Tier-1 engineering institute. Coming from a rural background where education itself was a significant challenge, I gradually discovered the importance of holistic development. In college, I began volunteering for campus events and ultimately led the institute’s tech fest in my final year. I also taught underprivileged children from nearby slums, helping improve their academic performance and encouraging their participation in extracurricular activities. I’ve also pursued sports passionately, starting from scratch and going on to lead my department’s Kabaddi and Table Tennis teams as captain in inter-department tournaments.

At work, I actively contribute to organizing team-building events and volunteer regularly for my company’s CSR initiatives.

Post-MBA Goals:

In the short term, I aim to transition into strategic and decision-making roles at a technology company to better understand business operations and product strategy. In the long term, my vision is to launch a FinTech and AgriTech venture focused on building sustainable supply chains and empowering rural communities, particularly farmers—by driving inclusive economic development.

Good foundational pieces are available in your profile. You will need to separate out the noise in your narrative from what will really matter in your applications. School selection is as much a science as an art, and you may want to go a bit broader. Keep an eye on any news re the fate of OPT/H1B.

Thanks for sharing your profile @Manoj Harsha! Your profile presents a good blend of strong academics, technical depth, and a purpose-driven narrative that will resonate with many top MBA programs. With a GPA of 4.0 from NIT Delhi, one of India’s premier engineering institutes, you have already established yourself as a high-performing student. Your GMAT FE score of 675 is competitive for most of your target schools. However, given the highly competitive nature of Indian male tech applicants, your success will rest heavily on your story, leadership, and clarity of goals, which you have articulated well.

Professionally, your 7 years of experience in the R&D division of a major FinTech firm stand out for both scale and impact. Working with petabyte-scale financial datasets and delivering intelligent, data-driven features used by 9 of the top 10 U.S. banks places you in an elite tier of technical professionals. What makes this experience even more compelling is the bridge you've built between deep technical expertise and tangible business outcomes. Schools like Tepper, Kellogg MBAi, and Cornell can especially value your hybrid role that integrates backend development with data science and business analytics.

Outside of work, your extracurricular engagement and leadership trajectory help differentiate you further. From leading your college’s tech fest to teaching underprivileged children and captaining multiple sports teams, you demonstrate a well-rounded personality that aligns with the values of collaborative and socially conscious MBA programs. Your involvement in CSR initiatives at work adds another layer of community engagement that top programs like Yale SOM and Ross hold in high regard. These activities help humanize your technical profile and show emotional intelligence, resilience, and initiative, all valued by admissions committees. You may take a look at this blog: Extracurricular Activities for MBA

Your post-MBA goals show ambition. In the short term, your plan to pivot into strategic roles within the technology sector is logical and achievable, especially with your current experience and the analytical mindset you bring to problem-solving. Your long-term goal to build a FinTech and AgriTech venture that empowers rural communities is deeply personal, socially impactful, and mission-driven. This shall resonate especially well with schools like Yale SOM, Ross, and ISB.

In terms of application strategy, make sure your essays emphasize not just what you’ve done, but why it mattered, how you collaborated across functions, and what you learned along the way. Show your transition from a problem solver to a visionary, someone ready to lead tech initiatives that balance innovation with inclusion. Schools will want to see that you’re not only capable of excelling in a business role but also that you have the empathy, adaptability, and vision to drive meaningful change.

To further sharpen your application, here are a few questions to reflect on: Have you had opportunities to work on cross-functional teams or directly influence business strategy? Are there any entrepreneurial side projects you’ve explored? Can you demonstrate progression in scope or complexity over your 7 years of work experience? And finally, how will you show that your passion for rural development and FinTech is not just aspirational, but something you've already taken early steps toward?

With thoughtful storytelling, clear articulation of goals, and alignment to each school’s mission, you can differentiate yourself from the crowded Indian male tech applicant pool. You can take a look at this blog: Overrepresented Applicants. If you’d like help with school selection, personal branding, or crafting essays that bring your story to life, we’d be happy to support you through the next steps. Feel free to book a profile evaluation session.

Cheers!

Hi @Manoj Harsha
Thanks for sharing your profile!

Your profile is eye-catching in many aspects. Your R&D experience shows substantial growth and outcome and you can strategically emphasize your technical depth in data-driven backend development, exposure to petabyte-scale datasets, and your role in enhancing customer-facing products for 9 of the top 10 US banks in your essays. Do show some quantitative impact as well to solidify the impact of your work. Based on your mix of software engineering and analytics experience, you stand a good chance for programs like Kellogg’s MBAi, Tepper, and Ross. They also admire tech-savvy candidates like yourself who want to progress in product, strategy, or innovation management profiles.

GMAT-wise, it’s better to use the Focus-edition. Given that you have scored 675 in this format, try to push your score by another 20 to 30 points for Yale, Kellogg, Cornell, and Ross. ISB and Tepper can be targeted with the current score.

Moving on, the extracurricular activities that you have undertaken further enrich your profile. Use you experiences in leading your college’s tech fest and sports teams, tutoring underprivileged children, and volunteering in CSR initiatives to explain what you have learnt from them, how they have helped you grow as a person, and how you could you draw on these experiences to help the school’s relevant clubs and student organizations. Speaking of contributing to the schools’ extra-curricular and volunteering initiatives will show that you are eager to contribute both in and out of the campus.

Coming to your goals, you’re on the right track by deciding to pivot into tech strategy roles post-MBA. Your plan to establish a FinTech venture in the long term is in sync with your current experience in a FinTech Firm. Only ensure that you adequately explain how an MBA build on this experience and how it will give you the skillset and knowledge to establish and run such a business and its supply chain. You’ve also mentioned your plan of launching an Agri Tech business. Since you haven’t mentioned any exposure to this sector, it’s advisable to explain why the Agri Tech sector, why you want to aid the economic development of farmers and how an MBA will support this, etc.

So, concentrate on these aspects and you will have a more compelling profile. We would also suggest expanding your school list for more success in R1.

We’d love to offer a 1-on-1 profile evaluation to dive deeper into your strengths, discuss more about your portfolio, talk through your fit across schools, and co-create a tailored application game plan!

Hi @Manoj Harsha,

You have a strong and well-rounded profile. With 7 years of impactful technical experience at a top FinTech firm, you've contributed to building enterprise-scale, data-driven solutions used by major global banks. Your blend of backend development and data science, working with petabyte-scale datasets, positions you well for tech-focused MBA programs. While your GMAT Focus score of 675 is decent, it is slightly on the lower side for top-tier programs. Also, being an Indian applicant with a tech background, you would be part of an overrepresented candidate pool - I’d encourage you to retake the GMAT and aim to improve your score by 20-30 points to strengthen your application.

Beyond work, your journey from a rural background to leading campus events, teaching underprivileged children, and captaining sports teams adds a deeply personal and socially conscious dimension to your story. Continued volunteering and CSR involvement at work further reflect leadership and community orientation. Your post-MBA goal to move into tech strategy roles and eventually launch a FinTech/AgriTech venture focused on rural development shows both ambition and alignment with your personal values.

Highlighting your leadership, professional achievements, relevant skills, career goals, unique experiences, and fit with the program effectively will be crucial in crafting a compelling application. To maximize your chances, consider applying to a balanced mix of reach, target, and safety schools. Feel free to book a free call with our MBA experts for a more detailed discussion. Hi Manoj
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, you bring a strong, well-rounded profile with 7 years of tech experience. Your ability to blend backend development with data science positions you well for post-MBA roles in product/tech strategy. What really elevates your story is your long-term vision of launching a FinTech/AgriTech venture to empower rural communities—a goal rooted in personal experience and social impact.

Your GMAT score looks decent for your target programs. The next important task will be to align other aspects of your application. Your leadership in college and continued volunteering work shows a strong, consistent commitment to growth and giving back to the society. Have you thought about how these experiences shape your leadership approach today?

You can also consider adding schools Fuqua and UCLA—both offer strong support for tech and social impact goals. With refined storytelling you can present a powerful application across this set. Work on sharpening your “why MBA now” and making that transition from deep tech to strategic leadership as seamless and compelling as possible.

Hello,

Thanks for the detailed profile.

You bring good experience in FinTech, with technical depth in data-driven applications and scale, which will stand out in tech-focused programs.

Your work directly impacts top-tier financial institutions and showcases strong applied analytics, which makes you a solid fit for programs like Kellogg MBAi and Tepper.

Your background from NIT Delhi and rural upbringing, coupled with community involvement and leadership in sports, reflects a well-rounded, impact-driven narrative. The GMAT is slightly below median for schools like Kellogg or Yale, but your Classic 720 gives you a fighting chance, just ensure strong execution in essays and recs.

Your long-term goal in rural fintech-agritech is compelling and differentiating if tied well to past experiences and the MBA.

Happy to help you tighten the storytelling and school strategy.

@Manoj - Thanks for sharing your profile.

Your academic arc looks good, the GMAT is a bit on the lower side for M7's though, considering the competitive applicant pool - any scope to improve here?

The work-ex is strong, given the analytics/ fintech experience, international exposure. Some more details can help: have you switched firms? have there been any promotions?

The work-ex (7 years) is a bit on the higher side, but with a strong motivation and well thought out career goals, this would be alright.

Hope this helps. Feel free to reach out for a deeper chat.
