Hello folks!
I am a 28-year-old Indian male, planning to apply to INSEAD/IESE/LBS for their intake of August 2027. I have given my GMAT and have scored a 665 Q80 VR86 DI83
Currently working for Bain Capability Network (part of Bain & Co.) for 4+ years, serving as a project leader. Prior to this, I have worked for 2 years with McKinsey Knowledge Centre (part of McKinsey & Co.). In my current role, I work actively on international projects with a focus on the Middle East, as I did in my previous role.
Did my undergraduate degree from the University of Delhi, B.Com (H) and after college, I had my own business in international trade for a few months.
Post-MBA goal is to remain within MBB, preferably in the Dubai office.
I really need input as to whether I need a higher score than this or if it's good enough for R1? As I understand, GMAT, though vital, is only a part of the overall application, and I do see that my profile is aligned with their average class profile. Scholarships are definitely preferred, but not a deal breaker; I am okay taking a loan for the entire college fee and then using my savings for living expenses.
Please suggest. Thanks!
Overall read: This is a very strong mid-career consulting-heavy profile for INSEAD, especially with international exposure and leadership in Bain Capability Network projects.
What works well:
6+ years of consulting experience at top-tier firms (Bain and McKinsey) — highly aligned with MBB post-MBA goals.
Project leadership experience with international scope — demonstrates both leadership and global perspective.
UG degree + entrepreneurial experience adds diversity, showing initiative and risk-taking.
GMAT Focus ~655 with strong Q/VR/DI is competitive; solid foundation to build on if aiming higher.
Key focus areas:
Focus on demonstrating impact in your consulting roles — highlight projects led, revenue/efficiency impact, client influence, and mentorship.
Articulate clearly why INSEAD over other top programs — your international exposure is a key hook.
Consider whether you want to target other schools like LBS, HEC, or Wharton for MBB placement diversification.
Score guidance:
GMAT Focus 655 is solid for INSEAD, but a 660–670+ could make you more competitive for scholarships or stretch schools.
Verdict:
You have a competitive profile for INSEAD and your MBB post-MBA goal. Your test performance and ability to frame consulting impact + international leadership will be the main levers.

I have worked with so many folks with a similar profile like yours for LBS, INSEAD, HEC Paris and IESE, so I understand the strengths of your profile. A 665 GMAT is not a bad score, but it doesn't bring you any advantage either and can be troublesome if you are being compared with other applicants from BCN/ similar background. I suggest you make another attempt with your eyes on a 30+ points increase. It will specifically help for LBS.
A few other things:
1. Your goals are valid, but when you get down to writing them, show a passion behind them and the difference you wish to create in the world. For someone working at BCN/ Mck Digital, an MBA is a natural step to move into strategy consulting. Also, Dubai has become a hot location as there's still a consulting pipeline there as compared to UK or Europe. So, with these given factors, you would want to show that you have a larger and more ambitious career purpose than just making a role and geography transition. Bringing this thinking into your goals essay will help you write a more personalized answer which will help in admission.
2. ECAs can bring a differentiating element to your profile. Both INSEAD and LBS applications have questions around ECAs and these give applicants a great chance to showcase their multi-faceted personality. Incase you haven't built on these since your college, now is the time to actively get involved and strengthen this part of your profile.
I'd be happy to have a more detailed discussion with you on your profile. Feel free to fill this profile evaluation form, should you be interested: https://mbadecoder.com/services/free-pr ... valuation/
