Princeton Review Inc., which has been bleeding red ink, is selling its healthier and better-known division—the Princeton Review test-prep business—for $33 million to private-equity firm Charlesbank Capital Partners.
Under the arrangement, current management will work with Charlesbank.
Both companies declined to be interviewed about the change, but Princeton Review said in a news release that, with the sale, it wanted to shift its focus to its online education operation.
After the sale, Princeton Review will cease to be known as Princeton Review and will become the yet-to-be-named holding company for the Penn Foster online education business.
