Hello,

Both the courses are designed for graduates who wish to seek admission in management courses. Here are the key differences between the two, which can help you decide, which is better for you:

1) MBA is for experienced professionals who want to excel in their careers, whereas a MIM is for fresh graduates who wish to kick start their career.

2) MBA has a more practical approach, whereas MIM’s will be more theoretical. An MBA focuses on case studies and projects, whereas MIM’s will be more lecture-oriented and theory-based.

3) MBA focuses on building a specialization, whereas MIM focuses on building a foundation. You will gain knowledge of elective courses in an MBA, whereas in a MIM dive deeper into the cores of businesses.

4) MBA cost is higher- The tuition fee for an MBA is higher than the tuition fee for a MIM, in fact, the cost of doing an MBA is twice the cost of doing a MIM.

5) With an MBA, you will directly enter a mid-positioned job and the salary being paid to you will be high. Whereas with a MIM, you will get a beginner-level job and maybe a lower salary.

Hi all,

Please help me out here, I am a little confused.
I recently wrote my GMAT and scored a 710 and a GPA of 8.1 (on a scale of 10). I have close to 3 years of work experience in Software sales, but since I have a 3 year graduate degree, I'm still 23.

The thing is that most MiM program have an average work ex requirement of 0-2 years and Most of the MBA programs require work ex of at least 3 years. I was originally going to apply for MiM programs but my preparation stretched another year and now I face this choice.

I am aware that there are differences between the two programs, but since I do not have any significant leadership experience and the MBA programs are super-competitive - most of the candidates I've seen have around 5-6 years of work ex, something which I lack, but at the same time most of the MiM candidates have associate level experience but not more that 2 years, which I have exceeded.)

Personally, my instincts tell me to apply for an MiM program since I'm still yet to learn a lot of things and a foundational course with more younger candidates may suit me. What would you think would be the right choice here ?

My target MiM programs: HEC, ESCP, ESSEC, ESADE
My target MBA programs: WHU, UCD Smurfit, HHL, ESMT, RSM (Also thinking of applying to US MBA but considering applications being competitive, I have kept them as just an option)

Hey KeyurJoshi,
It is very common for students to get confused with their course selection.
MBA and MiM are both management-related degrees.
MBA course is more practical learning; that is, you will gain real-life experience and skills during this course
On the other hand, MiM is a more theoretical-based course.

MBA courses are a little more expensive than MiM courses.
Though MiM has become quite popular following the last few years, it is still unknown, and some employers may not have heard about it.

The course choice depends on your end goal.
What is it that you aspire to learn - theoretical experience or practical, that depends on your career choice.
Please mention your end goals so I can evaluate your profile better.

Your GMAT and GPA are pretty good.
Your work experience is also good.
I don’t see you mention your extracurricular activities, so please mention them.

I understand you have a dilemma selecting your ideal course, let our experts help you with that.

Hi KeyurJoshi , a lot has been said on this thread previously.

I just hope you take into consideration whether you would want to do or may require to do an MBA at some point in your life. An MiM program, though more economical may not really serve your goals in mid term or long term. You have not mentioned your vision of your professional career therefore I am unable to advise you with partial information. You already have 3 years of work experience and by the time you attend classes you would be closer to 4 years. I see an MBA as a better investment of time and money for someone with your experience.

And I can tell you there are a good number of 23-25 year olds at programs such as INSEAD or HEC MBA. So age is no bar if you can present a compelling case for an MBA application for your target schools.

If you wish to seek professional guidance on your application strategy do reach out.

Best wishes

Hi guys,
Thanks a lot for your response. I have taken both MiM and MBA into consideration. I do think that MBA would be a good option since my work ex will be around 4 years when I will start any program in September 2023.

The only reason I was refraining from targeting an MBA program (particularly in the US) is the high cost of tuition. Some of the MBA programs, in which I think I have a chance, demand a high tuition fee (around $ 100k) The situation is quite similar in other countries such as the UK and France. I understand that there are options to fund your MBA such as scholarships. There are other options such as private student loans. But is there any chance that 100% of the cost of attendance can be borrowed and repaid later?? I know there are a lot of factors involved while evaluating the candidates financial background.

My plan was already to get a student loan for the MiM program, but I considered it because the cost of MiM is quite low. Whereas the cost of MBA is very high compared to MiM and I'm not sure if the lenders are able to risk such a high amount i.e. 100% of the tuition. Can you guys please guide in any way possible. It all comes down to financing for me!!

Hi KeyurJoshi , to answer in brief, yes you can 100% take a loan (for example from Prodigy finance) to cover the tuition. You may have to look at other options to cover the cost of living. There may be good chances of getting a scholarship as well. I would be happy to guide you over a call (based on my experience).

Best regards
