hi everyone,

this is my first post and I will try to take the GMAT test in 2 weeks. Am I crazy?
Anyway the real is this one.

Is ABC a right triangle?

(1) the degree measure of <A is equal to the sum of the degree measures of <B and <C.
(2) The degree measure of <C is 45

I answered C, since <A+<B+<C=180 and <A=<B+<C

but the answer on the Kaplan CD was A.

I am lost.

thanks

NB: some people mentioned some AWA essay templates. I would be greatly thankfull is I could have some infos about it.

Eliminate B first - since (2) is not sufficient.

From the stem itself, you have 1 equation: A + B + C = 180 [i]

From (1), you have another equation: A = B + C [ii]

Subt [ii] into [i], you have: A + A = 180.
Therefore, A = 90
Therefore, triangle ABC is a right angle triangle.

Remember, you can usually find 1 equation from the question stem itself.

All the best,
tk
