1. Ed and Ann both have lemonade with their lunch. Ed orders the regular size.
2. Ann gets the large lemonade, which is 50% more than the regular.
3.After both consume 3/4 of their drinks, Ann gives Ed a third of what she has left, and 2 additional ounces.
4.When they finish their lemonades they realize that they both drank the same amount.
Asked: How many ounces of lemonade did they drink together?
1. Ed and Ann both have lemonade with their lunch. Ed orders the regular size.
Let the size of regular lemonade be x.
2. Ann gets the large lemonade, which is 50% more than the regular.
Ann gets lemonade = 1.5x = 3x/2
3.After both consume 3/4 of their drinks, Ann gives Ed a third of what she has left, and 2 additional ounces.
Ed consumes = 3x/4
Ann consumes = 3*3x/4*2 = 9x/8
Ann left lemonade = (3x/2 - 9x/8) = 3x/8
Ann gives Ed a third of what she has left, and 2 additional ounces.
Ann gives Ed = x/8 + 2
4.When they finish their lemonades they realize that they both drank the same amount.
Ed consumes = x + (x/8+2)= 9x/8 + 2
