Topic : “All too often, companies hire outside consultants to suggest ways for the company to operate more efficiently. If companies were to spend more time listening to their own employees, such consultants would be unnecessary.”
I partially agree with the speaker’s viewpoint that if companies did spending more time listening to their own employees, such freelancer to hire from outside would be unnecessary. Consultant’s are now widely hired because of the changing technology and competitive market across, it is important for every organization to have those specialized business analyst’s who can strategize by their unique and divergent solutions to make any organization in par with others. But one of the bad part of hiring these consultants would be giving the credibility to someone else to make a choice or an opinion about your company.
Consultant in my opinion are those independent contractors who come with a baggage without any prior relation with the organization, no agreement, without personal issues with the company, so in that case a consultant would be able to provide his view with his empirical experiences and divergent opinions without any kind of bias. Having said that I also feel that employees working in an organization would have a better understanding of the problems they are facing, they should be allowed to provide in their inputs. In my opinion in areas where pundits are hired just to provide few insightful thoughts, in such cases it would be efficient if the company come with policies where the employers will be rewarded if they come with the best solutions or insightful methodologies to the problem. This way we can encourage the employers to boost their confidence and will motivates them to perform better. I feel employers should be involved in the decision making, strategic planning and should be given the liberty to propose any alternative solution and should not be alienated. This method would help to appease any issue to an extent; since they are the ones working quotidian with their counterparts and also continuous client interaction; they can also be a better consultant because of the better understanding of issues. There needs to be synergy between the company and its employees always, this will help in building better relationship between them and can make an organization a happier and a better place to work. Consultants are essential when a company feels they do not have essential internal resource to provide solution to the critical problem.
In another example where in a hospital we notice at times whenever there are cases with very rare operations such as involving organ transplant. Hospitals usually tend to hire those consultants in those expertise’s in that field to operate. I feel it is efficacious when few specialists or market strategists are hired on the requirement basis; that would be more prudent and make more financial sense rather than having them as a full time employment basis.
Consultants are these very essential in order to keep in pace and par with the growing business market, they are hired now in various fields such as healthcare, finance, business etc. I feel these freelancers can be those game changers who would look into any issues meticulously with their empirical experience, their broader vision about issues and perspicacious knowledge about the solutions, prophecy of the outcome and would impugn with their permutation combination with their strategies in all broader perspective.
