If x is a factor of y and y is a factor of z, then z is divisible by both x and y. Said another way, z is a multiple of x and is also a multiple of y.
(1) Sufficient
If the product of two numbers is even, then at least one of the numbers is even.
Three possibilities: z odd, x even z even, x odd z even, x even
From the original statement, we know that z is a multiple of x, so we can eliminate the first possibility because the multiple of an even number is always even. All the rest of the cases have z as even.
(2) Sufficient
Because z is a multiple of y, and y is even. z must be even.
