using the formula of calculating the distance between two points we have distance between point P and the origin (center of the circle) = 2 = distance between point S and the origin.

From this we have the equation s^2 + t^2 = 4 (equation of the circle with the center at origin)

Now draw line PS. Using the pythagoras thereom we have:

PS ^2 = 4 + 4 or (sqrt3-s)^2 + (1-t)^2 = 8

or 4 + s^2 + t^2 -2sqrt3s- 2t= 8 (but s^2 + t^2 =4)

so we have t = -sqrt3 *s

putting the value of t in the equation s^2 + t^2 = 4 we get s = 1

Hence answer is s= 1
