Interview Flow & Questions- Introduction
- Asked me to briefly introduce myself and my background.
- Undergraduate Subject Question
- Asked me to explain one topic from my UG syllabus.
- I struggled here and couldn’t explain it well — I was honest and didn’t try to bluff.
- Conceptual / Theory Question
- Asked about Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.
- I explained it clearly with examples — this went very well and the panel seemed satisfied.
- Career Pivot Question
- They asked:
Quote:
“You are a marketing guy, very creative. Why are you moving towards a more technical / analytical program like PGPM?” - My answer:
- I explained that I want to pivot into consulting, where understanding customer behavior, branding, and decision-making is crucial.
- I mentioned that while I understand the customer behaviour and branding , I want to build structured problem-solving, analytics, and business decision skills, which is why PGPM makes sense.
- I clearly said the MBA is to bridge my gaps, not to abandon marketing.
- Guesstimate
- Question:
Quote:
“Estimate how many students would buy LinkedIn Premium.” - I structured it using:
- Student population assumptions
- Segmentation (UG / PG / working professionals / aspirants)
- Willingness to pay
- I was able to explain customer behavior logic, but I know my numbers could have been sharper.
- Still, I stayed structured and calm.
- Why MBA / Why Great Lakes
- Asked what I expect from PGPM and how I plan to use a 1-year program.
- I asked them in return:
Quote:
“If I get into PGPM, how can Great Lakes help me specifically for consulting roles, and how can I maximise the one-year format?”
- Feedback from Panel
- They were candid and said something along the lines of:
- “You’re clearly not average, but in today’s world (especially with AI coming in), you need to go deeper. Depth will differentiate you.”
- This feedback felt constructive rather than negative.

Overall Experience- The interview was balanced — they tested:
- Conceptual clarity
- Self-awareness
- Career intent
- Structured thinking
- They didn’t expect perfection, but they clearly value:
- Depth
- Honesty
- Ability to reflect and improve

My Takeaways for Future Applicants- Know your UG basics — don’t ignore them.
- Be clear on your “why MBA / why PGPM”, especially if you’re pivoting.
- Guesstimates are about structure first, numbers second.
- Don’t bluff — honesty is appreciated.
- They value depth over surface-level answers.
