Dear Experts and fellow members,
Hi.
I am facing some trouble with helper verbs, commission of verbs and their tenses.
I'll try to clear my doubts by using some examples:
1. I walk faster than Mike walks. CORRECT.
2. I walk faster than Mike walks. CORRECT.
3. I walk faster than Mike does. CORRECT.
4. A lion can run as fast as a tiger can run. CORRECT
5. A lion can run as fast as tiger can. CORRECT.
7. Fred will rent a canoe before Silvia does. CORRECT Source: Magoosh Blog.
First part of the comparison.
Verb form = will rent
Nature = helper + main verb
Second part of the comparison.
Verb form = does
Nature = helper
Conclusion: helper verb of the form "TO DO" can stand in for helper + main verb forms.
THEN IS THE FOLLOWING SENTENCE WRONG?
8. A lion can run as fast as a tiger does. CORRECT OR INCORRECT?
AND WHAT ABOUT THE FOLLOWING SENTENCE?
9. A lion can run as fast as a tiger runs. CORRECT OR INCORRECT?
Would really like your thoughts on this one.
I have really split my hairs trying to understand whether the last 2 are correct or not.

Hi.
I am facing some trouble dealing with helper verbs that replace main + helper verbs in a change of tense.
# 1. I HAVE never SEEN an aardvark, but last year my father DID. - WRONG. (THIS IS FROM MGMAT) (because the first instance of the verb should match the helping verb in tense)
# 2. Since 1990 the global economy HAS GROWN more than it DID during the 10,000 years from the beginning of agriculture to 1950 - CORRECT OG OA.
I can't understand why the first sentence is wrong.
Also, is the following sentence correct?
#3. John has always eaten more meat than Paul does.
