Notice the "jump" in the reasoning here. Option E addresses this perfectly.

D can be eliminated because we cannot say that " The most profitable investors INVEST THE MAJORITY of the portfolios in higher-risk positions."

We know that the most profitable is less diversified and take on more risk, but we do not know that the MJAORITY of the portfolios is in higher-risk positions. It could simply be that 49% of their portfolio is in higher risk positions, and that in it of itself would make it more risky and less diversified than its counterpart pointed out.
