Hi everyone,
I’m trying to understand how much weight work experience really carries in PGDM admissions. I’ve seen mixed opinions, some say strong academics and test scores can compensate for being a fresher, while others say 1-3 years of work ex adds significant value, especially during interviews and final selections.
For instance, shows even schools like Welingkar factor work experience into their profile-based selection, but their recent class profile also had a large percentage of freshers, which makes me wonder how critical it really is.
I’m specifically looking at Mumbai schools like Welingkar Institute of Management, Somaiya, S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research and even broader Mumbai choices.
A few questions for the community:
1) Does 0 work ex put an applicant at a major disadvantage for PGDM admissions?
2) Is 1-2 years considered the sweet spot, or is more always better?
3) For someone targeting marketing/finance roles, does work ex matter more for placements than admissions?
4) Between Welingkar and KJ Somaiya, which would you pick today and why?
5) Are there other Mumbai colleges I should seriously consider in this tier?
Would especially love to hear from current students/alumni or anyone who made these choices recently. Thanks in advance for helping out!
