Most of the students complain about having to go through passages that are boring and lengthy at times. However, much to our dismay, we cant avoid them. So, for a short passage (GMAT or GRE level) which is approximately 200-250 words, one must take about 3 minutes and 30 seconds to read and understand the passage. This would include the time to take notes and understand the flow of ideas. Next, for every question one can spend upto 1 minute and 30 seconds. So, it means that the moment you face a short RC, you must leave that page in maximum 5 minutes including solving the first question. Post that each question should take no more than 1 and a half minutes. So, for a short passage to with 3 questions, a total of 8 minutes must be practiced and mastered before the test.

For a long passage which is around 350 words, one may take 4 and a half minutes to 5 minutes for reading and understanding the passage and for each question 1 and a half minutes. So, a long passage with 4 questions one must take no more than 10 and a half minutes.

P.S. reaching accuracy in that time requires focus on quality than quantity!
