$$\frac{2}{1+\frac{2}{y}}=1$$ --> $$\frac{2}{\frac{y+2}{y}}=1$$ --> $$\frac{2y}{y+2}=1$$ --> $$2y=y+2$$ --> $$y=2$$.

Simplified in this way:

$$2 = 1 + \frac{2}{y}$$

$$\frac{2}{y} = 1$$;

So y = 2

For $$\frac{2}{1+\frac{2}{y}}$$ to equal 1, $$1+\frac{2}{y}$$ should equal 2.
Therefore, $$1+\frac{2}{y} = 2$$ --> $$\frac{2}{y} = 1$$ --> $$y = 2$$ ---> $$\frac{2}{1+\frac{2}{2}}=1$$

The difficulty level of the question is sub-600 as shown by the tag right above the question timer.

FYI, asking for a question level is not going to help you. Try to understand what is required to be done in a particular question.

2 = 1 + 2/y
1 = 2/y
y = 2

We need to simplify the equation 2/(1 + 2/y) = 1. We can start by multiplying both sides of the equation by 1 + 2/y and we have:

2 = 1 + 2/y

1 = 2/y

y = 2

2 divided by "something" equals "1". The only value in which 2 is divided by some value and is equal to "1" is when 2 is divided by itself. I wish I had this question on the exam! I think GMAT is also testing the prime number rules...."A Prime Number can be divided evenly only by 1, or itself."
