Simplified in this way:
\(2 = 1 + \frac{2}{y}\)
\(\frac{2}{y} = 1\);
So y = 2
Answer = D

(A) 2 (B) 1/2 (C) 1/2 (D) 2 (E) 3 We need to simplify the equation 2/(1 + 2/y) = 1. We can start by multiplying both sides of the equation by 1 + 2/y and we have: 2 = 1 + 2/y 1 = 2/y y = 2 The answer is D.

2 divided by "something" equals "1". The only value in which 2 is divided by some value and is equal to "1" is when 2 is divided by itself. I wish I had this question on the exam! I think GMAT is also testing the prime number rules...."A Prime Number can be divided evenly only by 1, or itself."
