If \(\frac{2}{1+\frac{2}{y}}=1\), then y =
(A) -2
(B) -1/2
(C) 1/2
(D) 2
(E) 3

For \(\frac{2}{1+\frac{2}{y}}\) to equal 1, \(1+\frac{2}{y}\) should equal 2.
Therefore, \(1+\frac{2}{y} = 2\) --> \(\frac{2}{y} = 1\) --> \(y = 2\) ---> \(\frac{2}{1+\frac{2}{2}}=1\)

Answer choice D

The difficulty level of the question is sub-600 as shown by the tag right above the question timer.

FYI, asking for a question level is not going to help you. Try to understand what is required to be done in a particular question.

(B) -1/2
(C) 1/2
(D) 2
(E) 3

We need to simplify the equation 2/(1 + 2/y) = 1. We can start by multiplying both sides of the equation by 1 + 2/y and we have:

2 = 1 + 2/y

1 = 2/y

y = 2

The answer is D.

2 divided by "something" equals "1". The only value in which 2 is divided by some value and is equal to "1" is when 2 is divided by itself. I wish I had this question on the exam! I think GMAT is also testing the prime number rules...."A Prime Number can be divided evenly only by 1, or itself."

No need to calculate here as the basic rule of prime number is a number which is divisible by 1 and itself.
Now given equation :
2/(1+2/y) = 1 , this implies the denominator and numerator are equal
so , 1+2/y = 2 then only this will be 1 and 2 is a prime number.
Hence y can be only 2
