3^n+1 = 3^2(n-1)
n+1 = 2(n-1)
n + 1 = 2n - 2
2n - n = 1 + 2
n = 3

Answer is E

a^m = a^n implies m= n
assume n+1 = a n-1 =b
3^a = 9^b
3^a = 3^2b
hence a = 2b
n+1 = 2n - 2
n = 3
