Inference: a and b have the same sign, i.e. both a and b are positive or both are negative.
So if know the sign of either a or b , we can determine the sign of the other variable.
Question:
Is \(a^3b^2>0\) >
Is \(a(a^2b^2)>0\)
\(a^2b^2 = (ab)^2\) ⇒ Always non negative
To answer the question we need to know the sign of a.
Statement 1
(1) \(a>0\)
Sufficient, as we the statement tells us that a is positive.
Statement 2
(2) \(b>0\)[/quote]
This statement tells us that b is positive, however from the premise we know that a and b have the same sign. So a is positive as well.
Sufficient.
