Since it is an approximation problem (it says 'approximate' in the problem), you will first notice that the answer choices are spread far apart so that allows you to approximate quite aggressively.
(50*3600)/5280 is approximately (50/5000) * 3600 = slightly smaller than 1/100 * 3600 = slightly smaller than 36. The only answer choice that is slightly less than 36 is 34. Answer is (C).
