Statement 1:
Let regular price of cartons = P each
Therefore, buying price of carton 1 = P
Therefore, buying price of carton 2 = 0.5*P
Total buying price = P + 0.5*P = 1.5*P
Total regular price = P + P = 2*P
%savings = (2*P - 1.5*P) ÷ 2*P = (0.5*P) ÷ 2*P = 25%
Statement 1 is sufficient.
Statement 2:
Regular price per half-gallon carton = $4
But this doesn't give us any information about the buying price of the individual cartons. Clearly insufficient.
Hence, statement 1 alone is sufficient, option A.

Solution:
Note: considering that both the "cartons" of ice cream are the same and have the same regular price.
Pre-Analysis:
Antonio bought two half-gallon cartons of ice cream during a special sale. This means he must have received some sort of discount.
We are asked the percent of the total regular price of the two cartons which he saved.
Statement 1: Antonio paid the regular price for the first carton and received the second carton for half the regular price
Let the regular price of each carton be $100.
Amount Antonio paid for 1st carton \(= $100\)
Amount Antonio paid for 2nd carton \(= \frac{100}{2}=$50 \)
Percentage Antonio saved \(= \frac{total.regular.price-amount.Antonio.paid}{total.regular.price} \times 100=\frac{200-150}{200}\times 100=\frac{50}{200}\times 100=25\%\)
Thus, statement 1 alone is sufficient and we can eliminate options B, C and E.
Statement 2: The regular price of the ice cream Antonio bought was $4.00 per half-gallon carton
From this, we can just get the regular price of both cartons but not the amount which Antonio pays for the same.
Thus, statement 2 alone is not sufficient.
Hence the right answer is Option A
