f(x) = x^3 − 5 and f(k) = 3

To find f(k) we will replace x with k in f(x) = x^3 − 5

=> f(k) = (k)^3 − 5 = = 3
=> k^3 = 5 + 3 = 8 = 2^3
=> k = 2

So, Answer will be B
Hope it helps!
