The ratio of y to x is 3

\(\frac{y}{x} = \frac{3}{1}\) , so y = 3x

Sum of y and x is 80

x + y = 80

Substitute y = 3x

x + 3x = 80
4x = 80
x = 20

Plug in x = 20
y = 3(20)
y = 60

Answer E

From the question stem, we know \(\frac{y}{x} = 3 => y = 3x\)

x+y = 80
Substituting this value of y, 4x = 80 -> x = 20
Therefore y = 3x = 60(Option E)
