Hi all, I have about 5 years of work ex in software and want to build my own company in a completely different space for which I want to formally study finance, marketing, etc because I preferred structured education.
I have got admits from ISB and IIMA and am making a decision based on these factors:
Brand value, peers, alumni network, professors, academic rigor, entrepreneurship support, time spent in program.
Brand value - useful for me when trying to get VC meetings. Potentially, if the startup fails and I want to get a job, better brand might matter. From what I have heard IIM-A is considered to have a better rank.
Peers - ISB students have higher work ex, but IIM students come through a more challenging entrance exam and compete with more people so maybe academically more thorough? Also, is high work ex always a benefit or can low work ex peers being more open to learning be an advantage?
Profs - ISB profs themselves do a lot of research and teach from that research. I don't know much about IIM profs - can anyone shed light here?
Alumni network - I have heard someone from IIM say I should not really consider this factor. A number of students at ISB have told me their network was strong and they had leveraged it.
Startup support - both unis have good startup ecosystems - I know what ISB's accelerator offers but don't know much about IIMA's and how many students opt for it.
Time spent in program - 1 year at ISB clear winner over 2 years at IIM so I can spend time on building the startup.
I am not considering fees as a factor for now.
Thoughts?
