In 2005, did Company A have more than twice the number of employees as did Company B?

(1) In 2005, Company A had 11,500 more employees than did Company B.
(2) In 2005, the 3,000 employees with advanced degrees at Company A made up 12.5 percent of that company’s total number employees, and the 2,500 employees with advanced degrees at Company B made up 20 percent of that company’s total number of employees.

We need to find is : number of employees of company A (a) > 2* number of employees of company B (b) ?

Statement 1:

(1) In 2005, Company A had 11,500 more employees than did Company B.

a = 11500 + b

without knowing the values of either a or b, it’s not possible.

Hence , Insufficient

Statement 2:

(2) In 2005, the 3,000 employees with advanced degrees at Company A made up 12.5 percent of that company’s total number employees, and the 2,500 employees with advanced degrees at Company B made up 20 percent of that company’s total number of employees.

3000 = (1/8) *a

a = 24000

Similarly, 2500 = (1/5)*b

b = 2500 * 5

b = 12500

24000 < 2*12500

we can answer the question , with a definite NO.

Hence, SUFFICIENT

Option B
