Correct:E
Split 1- Stating or Stated- as we are referring to study that is submitted in past, we need past tense instead of continuous tense. A & B OUT
Split 2- 'fail in noticing' or 'failed to notice'- 'Failed to notice' is correct idiom, and not 'fail in noticing'. B also have this idiom error but we already eliminated it.D OUT
Split 3- having or had- 'having failed' is incorrect tense here as 'notice' event is completed in past so instead of 'Present perfect'(having), we need past perfect tense (had). 'had' will define proper chronology of 'noticed' and 'trusted'.C OUT

Few more issues found in B are
B) editor, stating that most of the papers' reviewers failed in not noticing such intentional errors like analysis and design, and
-Error with 'failed in not noticing' is negation of negative verb failed, 'failed to not noticed' means they did notice. Rather it should be failed to notice, simple.
-'such intentional errors like' - such...like is incorrect idiom. use such as or like instead
- Last 'and' before 'none could....' changes meaning, because new parallelism introduced. instead we need 'since x, y happed' cause and effect sentence structure.
