I plugged in numbers. LMK if this method is not ideal.

P = 2
N = 2

Both choose school #1 = 1/2 x 1/2 = 1/4
Both choose school #2 = 1/2 x 1/2 = 1/4

Add the two possibilities together: 1/4 + 1/4 = 1/2

Plug P and N into formulas.

1/2^(2-1)
1/2^1
1/2

There are p employees and n schools. There isn't any constraint. Any employee can go to any school.

So, every employee can go to n schools, hence there would be n*n*n*n*n...........p combinations. = n^p

Now, in favorable cases, all employees can select the first school in only one way, like each school can be selected in one way only. And there are a total of n schools so the total favorable cases will be n only.

Probabilty = Fav/Tot = n / n^p = 1 / n^(p-1).
