If your goal is to work in India after graduation,
ISB probablyoffers the better short-term ROI. If your goal is to build a global career and keep international opportunities open, INSEAD can deliver a higher long-term ROI despite the higher cost.
Let's look at the numbers.
The total cost of an MBA at INSEAD is roughly €130,000 (tuition, living expenses, travel, and other costs), which is approximately ₹1.2–1.3 crore. In comparison, Indian School of Business costs around ₹45–50 lakh including tuition and living expenses.
For graduates returning to India, post-MBA salaries often overlap more than many applicants expect.
A typical ISB graduate entering consulting, product management, or leadership roles may earn ₹30–40 lakh per year, with top consulting offers going higher. An INSEAD graduate returning to India often lands in consulting, private equity, strategy, or senior leadership roles with compensation ranging from ₹35–60 lakh+, depending on prior experience and industry.
The key point is that INSEAD salaries in India are not necessarily 2–3x higher than ISB salaries, even though the degree costs more than twice as much.
Where INSEAD starts to pull ahead is career flexibility.
An ISB graduate's network is extremely strong within India and increasingly across the Middle East and Asia. However, an INSEAD graduate gains access to a truly global alumni network spanning Europe, Singapore, the Middle East, and North America. If there is a possibility that you may work abroad at any point in your career, INSEAD's value proposition changes significantly.
Another factor is candidate profile.
For someone already earning ₹12–15 lakh before the MBA, ISB often offers a faster payback period. Many graduates recover their investment within 2–3 years.
For someone with 5–8 years of experience targeting global consulting firms such as McKinsey & Company, Boston Consulting Group, or Bain & Company, INSEAD can justify its higher cost because it provides access to offices and opportunities across multiple geographies.
My view:
- Choose ISB if you are highly likely to build your career in India and want the strongest ROI per rupee invested.
- Choose INSEAD if you value international mobility, a global alumni network, and the option to work across multiple countries during your career.
For pure India-focused ROI, ISB usually wins.
For global career ROI over 10–20 years, INSEAD often comes out ahead.
