Confused between E and C

I will go with C just because its keeping the tense simple.

i will go with E because we have change of time sequence. The first should be in the past tense and the second should be in the present perfect tense

A- wrong
B-wrong
C-wrong
D- wrong because of virtually unchanging "ackward"
E- right
